on Β Pirates of Hakone. I was inside a volcano at Hakone in Japan. Β I slept overnight there. Β All night long, the earth rumbled and shook. Β It took a couple of hours to get used to the shakes. In the morning, I walked down to Lake Ashinoko. It's a crater lake. There were pirate ships there. I took their pictures. HURRAY! Now I can post to your profile instead of your journal! How did you do the head of the oni? Was there wire threaded in the head?

no wire, all i used was a giant 24" balloon, and covered it in paper mache. then after it dried, i popped the balloon and smashed the mache into a potato-y shape. after that i just kept adding layers and mache-ing more onto it until i got the right face shape.

How did you manage to get it to stand on your head and not fall over?

i forgot to tell you i also had a base piece out of mache and wire. It was made so that it fit over my shoulders like armor and makes a tube around my neck/skull.

yeah, it hurt my neck to wear it for more than 30 minutes at a time. The biggest problem is the window to see out of was way too small. i was pretty muh blind the entire time i was inside it. i made the head way too heavy. Dont add too many layers if you're making one the way i did. I'm retiring the poor thing. the paint's chipping off and it was hard to transport it to and from the convention. the nose is all smushed now :c
