Thanks for your comments and a very good question! Tupilak means Spiritual Creature. But it may also be translated into 'lost soul', a 'monster' or even a mythical 'devil' depending upon whom you ask. The word is from the Arctic peoples of Canada and is also known to the people of Greenland. Others say that a Tupilak is actually a dangerous doll-like creation created to cast powerful spells on an enemy, rather like a voodoo doll. In recent times, Eastern Greenlandic people now carve Tupilaks in ivory. Hope this helps! Frankly we took the nickname because we liked the concept of a Spiritual Creature and out of respect to the Arctic people who in turn respect Mother Earth. :) (Smile)
