Dear Tigergirl,

Apologies for my late response but the internet where I'm at is very hard to come across, but I'm here now and I hope I can help you.
I'm going to start off by saying that it doesn't really matter how old you are when your dating, as long as there's no 5 year age difference with the person you're dating. Anyway, to sum everything up, you're in love, you dated, you stopped dating, you want to start dating again.
First of all, you never told him that you loved him, you only said you 'liked' him. My advice on this would be the following: tell him.
It's funny how those two words can cause such an effect on people, but the truth is if you want to take your friendship up a notch then your going to have to be honest, completely and utterly so. If he doesn't feel the same way, forget it. You seem like a bright young girl and you shouldn't waste your time on something pointless (another reason to tell him, to see if this is going anywhere.
If he says he feels the same, go for it. You can date and study at the same time, it's not hard if you know how to balance it!
The thing that's so precarious about your situation is that your playing it safe. You're waiting for him to do all the moves when really you should just take the initiative and tell him! Because really that's all you can do, anything else will probably lead to disaster. Mind you telling him could also lead to disaster but it's less likely.
When it comes to love you have to be brave and dive head first into it. You can't be shy, you can't wait or else nothing will ever happen!

Regarding the lateness in which I am replying to this need for advice I must apologize. I haven't been myself and have been acting rather selfishly in not coming and checking on this account for quite some time, though it could have been worse. But enough of that, let's dive into this problem shall we? The first thing you need to ask yourself is this, do you want to do it? Because if you do by all means please just do it regardless of what others may say or think. Doing something to prove your worth to someone isn't wrong, but doing it to prove your own self worth is even better. You don't seem like the type to give a damn about other's opinions unless your patience is stretched, so I suppose this really is your last straw. On that note, I say do whatever the hell you feel like doing, seriously, never mind your mother's opinion or your friends, you want to do it? Do it. You don't? Don't. No one has a say in what you do to yourself (unless of course it brings harm in any way, which I don't think this does). All in all I don't think you came to me to ask me whether I should do it, I think you came to me so that I could tell you to tell everyone else to fuck off (pardon the language). I have the feeling whatever I told you you would have done what you felt like doing in the first place.
All in all, do whatever you want, and stick to your decision. Whatever this decision may be. Never look back, never regret.
On the other hand if you really do want my opinion, I say embrace yourself and love yourself for who you are. Change because you feel like changing and not because you're forced to. Change to suit yourself and not to suit others.
Really what I'm doing now is just grabbing what I wrote and putting it in different terms using pretty words to make it sound posh.

Being completely gay myself it doesn't seem like someone (much less your mother) could 'forbid' you from 'becoming' a lesbian. Which using Oxford terminology is just wrong. But what would I know, I've never been to Oxford. All in all what I'm trying to say rather precariously is that you better watch out in the way you use these terms. Thank you for replying to me. At first I felt like what I wanted to do was to please others, but now that I've thought on it, I truly want to do it, and no one can stop me from embracing myself, as you put it. I've talked to my mother and friends and have found support in both. And you're right, I'm not the type to care about what other people think about, and am mainly a self pleaser. Having listened to you and others, I have grounded my decision, and won't be moved from it.
