Heya!
On my Face picture you commented you fail at realism so I thought maybe I'd give some advice that I found helped me.
Now, for digital painting, there are a lot of really good tutorials on deviantart that are really helpful.
I really love these ([link] ) personally and I thought they're really clear and good tutorials.
And if you like, I have about 3 work-in-progress screenshots of my Face drawing, so you can see how that progressed.
But the main thing that helps for realism is drawing from life (if you can), or just traditional portrait-drawing, where you're focusing on the grey levels of any image. This really teaches you a different way of looking. I find the more traditional portraits I draw, the more details and interactions of light I begin to see.

They key is really in learning to look at things differently, and this takes a long time. But with practice and repetition (so basically, drawing A LOT) you WILL see improvement, and you'll notice how you pick up more than you did before.
I hope you don't mind my super lengthy comment, but I thought I'd just offer my two cents, since it's never fun to feel negatively about yourself as an artist.
The most important thing is still to just never give up.

Good! The last thing I want is for you to think I'm some pretentious know-it-all trying to be a smartass. I guess I kind of am a smartass at any rate, but you know what I mean 
It definitely takes time (and motivation), which I understand is something that's often hard to come by when you have a busy life.

I'm really really inspired and cant wait, but I'm currently on quite a bit of medication, and it's making me funny in the head and putting me to sleep at odd times, so I havent had a chance recently to sit down and draw
