I'm glad someone thinks Clopin as somebody who's not into them relationships (for some reason I think of him as the asexual type... though it might not be so but it makes sense to me...)
The thing that irritates me the most with this is that 90% of Clopin fanfiction is about him hooking up with someone, and there are plenty of fanart with him being with some Mary sue (or Esmeralda). And every time I see this I ask myself: why?
Why this constant need to have Clopin be in a romantic relationship? Why do romance stories? Why not do stories or drawings of him as he was in the movie: a fun loving, mischievous jester with a dark streak to him but loves his puppets. Why not have stories about Clopin being Clopin? Wouldn't romance mellow him out and make him boring? Is this really the only type of story fangirls can write about when it comes to this character?!
Sorry about the long rant but I just needed to vent my own frustration after two years of trying to find some decent stories/drawings where Clopin isn't constantly butchered with a Mary-Sue!

I agree with you one-hundred percent. If you're going to crush on a character that heavily that you even feel the need to go so far as to create your own character to interact with him, then for God's sake interact with him and not your version of what he should be like. If you change the character then what was it about the original that you liked so much, anyway? Mary-Sues are a means for the artist/writer to project themselves into that world and have (usually sexual) relationships with a character that they couldn't otherwise have, but I don't understand why there are so damn many of them for Clopin. In the end it just p*sses me off how much bad fanfiction I have to stumble across (as a rule I generally steer clear of fanfics, just because of my tendency to be easily annoyed by them).
The reason I'm such a fan of J-Jay-Jack's Clopin fics is that she manages to capture his personality from the movie quite well, at least in my opinion, mixed in with some of his quirks from the novel. Her interpretation involves him knowing Esmeralda from a young age so there is a somewhat mellow side to him, but it's not a romantic one, and I think it's a decent interpretation of what the movie isn't saying to fill in the blanks.
