It can bit a bit intimidating and it lags a bunch, haha. Honestly, all the settings and tools confuse me as well. I've been using Krita since late winter and I still don't know what they all do. Β
All you really need is your brush tool (hotkey is b) and an eraser (e). You have to hit e again to stop erasing though. Hold shift and drag the cursor left/right to adjust brush size and ctrl for the eyedropper. Pen pressure's pretty important. You can also hover your cursor over "image" (located at the very top) and hit mirror image horizontally to help you spot mistakes. Β
Krita also has a ton of layer settings but aside from normal, color dodge and burn (along with the occasional overlay) is all I've ever needed or used. You can find them under darken and lighten. These are normally for special effects and I'd never shade with them. I'd use an airbrush, they can be very powerful. Everything else is just extra to me.Β
I used to use a basic tip and hairy bristles brush. My painting of Orchid and that bear were actually made with the old tools! However, I found a great brush pack you can findΒ here. But I mostly use the pencil, flatbrush, airbrush, and a few texture brushes for the background. Feel free to experiment to find your favorites.Β
But remember, anyone can make art with any program or brush set. It's the artist, not the tools :>Β
