About 2 weeks, doing a few hours each evening - quite a labour intensive hobby! Something small like a suncatcher can be done in a few evenings, but big panels take a lot of preparation!

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of procedures are involved? Also, what kind of materials did/do you generally use for this sort of thing?

Well, I start with several A4 size sheets of stained glass (wispy yellow, wispy grey and semi-transluscent blue in this case, as well a alittle balck and white for the eyes), draw out the pattern on paper, cut out each paper template then cut and grind the glass to match it exactly. Once I've got all the pieces of glass cut and shaped, I check the fit (there can't be more than a millimetre gap between any two pieces of glass)and assemble it either in the Tiffany method (attach copper foil round the edge of each piece of glass, burnish and solder together) or the traditional lead came method like this one (use strips of lead with an 'H' profile, cut to size and soldered together to hold the glass in a frame, then cement to sela it). Once that's done, it's polished with a wire brush, the metal is blackened with grate polish or a copper sulphate/vinegar mix, andthe whole thing is polished with beeswax. It's a very rewarding hobby, despite the glass-shredded fingertips!
