I'm actually from Escatawpa but that's close enough. Also, if you didn't know already, I meet with a group of other photographers every Thursday at 6pm at the Finest Grind in Ocean Springs. We just meet up to talk photography and whatever else catches our interests. Rather impromptu stuff. We're not meeting this Thursday since Christmas is in a few days and everyone's visiting family but I think we will next week. I can check on that for you if you're interested or get them to add you to the e-mailing list.

Haha I had a bit of delay checking my inbox as well. Anywho, if you're still up for meeting up with us, we meet every Thursday in Ocean Springs at the Finest Grind coffee shop. Its nearby the Ocean Springs hospital, literally by the AT&T call center and Lenny's Sub Shop on Hwy 90. We all mosey in at around 6pm. Bring your camera and any photography if you want. We can give you tips and answer just about any questions you have about photography, great spots to shoot at, and whatever else comes to mind (doesn't have to be just photography). Doing quite well. Haven't been able to go out and shoot much lately thanks to work, getting my husband through college (2 more semesters!), and taking care of a cranky elderly person - its the usual I guess

You have amazing work. I couldn't 'build' anything from scratch like you do, not anything remotely close. My best drawing work would involve stickmen despite owning a Wacom tablet.

Photography's been somewhat of a hobby for some time now but I feel my skills have plateaued, I guess you could say. I've mostly been put off recently because I used to regularly submit some of my photos to a local magazine's monthly photo contest. I've submitted Afternoon Feeding , Taking a Sip , and they never pick them. Instead they pick photos that even their own photo editor has no idea why they're selected.

In fact, that specific magazine's own photo editor and the previous photo editor both love my work but have nothing to do with the contest since they're a part of our local "photo enthusiast club" just so they can remain impartial to the judging. So, I've been bummed about my photos lately because of this reason and a few others.

Don't worry. I think your shots are very good. And do you try another shot as entry to the contest? I don't have experience with any contest. Here on DA I tried one contest about one month ago, but I don't get ahead.

I've submitted several photos but to no positive response. I guess mine aren't "competitive" enough for whatever weird criteria it is they judge by.

Don't worry about your English. You speak (type) it better than more than a few people I know.
