Your so great at porting Gmod and SFM maps, I was wondering if you can port this Map?

Sorry, but I don't do Steam and I don't take requests. Thank you for asking, though.

Are you the same R E Mandel that used these parts long time ago? If so do you still have your original full sized Klingon ship schematics and can you share them please? Thanks

Hey, this will probably sound wierd..but I try to help other artist, who might feel sad and have a bad day. Since I don't really know who could be sad I just select a random person.
So idk if you need seeing this (or if it helps) but I wish you a wonderful day and keep doing what you are proud of!

I've not had a lot of luck porting rp_berlin1944 in either of the two versions I've found. If you can get me a direct DL link to this one I might try it. I"m not a Steam user.

Hey, assuming you're still active, I had a question about porting I hope you could help me with? Not the actual porting, just how to do it.
I know how to port character models from SFM to XNA easily now.
However, maps... allude me. You seem to have a handle on porting maps.

Nem's Crafty tool will port 98% of all Source engine maps out there that were compiled under Hammer v3, or under Hammer v4 but using the old Hammer v3 compiling method (you have to set this in the compile options in Hammer v4). That's pretty much everything from the original HL1 all the way to the early version of L4D1, or anything spun off from those. That list includes but is not limited to the HL2 series, HL2DM, CSS, DOD, the original TF, the Portal series, and so on. It also works with a fair amount of user mods too (NMRiH for example). It won't port anything compiled with Hammer v4 because Valve changed the way the maps are compiled. Those maps have to be recompiled for Hammer v3 (hint - if it's compiled specifically for GMOD use then it's compiled using the Hammer v3 method), or there's various hacks and brute force ripping methods out there you can try for maps compiled with Hammer v4 (I've used NinjaRipper and rebuilt v4 compiled maps by hand, for example, but it's a bitch). Unfortunately Nem is long gone and nobody's released an update or a tool like Crafty that can do the same things it does.
Hammer v4 type maps are from the later Source engine games: L4D2, CSGO, TF2, and the like. Remember, you have to set the option in the compiling menu to use the older compile method (Hammer v3) for Crafty to be able to port it.
Here's a link to Nem's Crafty. It's a bit of a pain to set up, but once you do you'll be amazed at what you can port. It can even port game objects too, although there's better tools for that. I use it mainly for map porting, and I've personally ported several thousand Source engine maps using Crafty ... although I have yet to finish cleaning all of them up. Here's the link:
nemesis.thewavelength.net/inde…
If you don't already have the games, then you'll need the data files for each and use Crafty's "Add Folder" option to add them to Crafty's internal file list so it can find and use them. Otherwise you'll get a lot of black backgrounds and white models with no textures. Nem gives you instructions on how to do this. You can find these datasets with an Internet search, or you can do what I did and find/download the old GMOD 11 with extras. That comes with a lot of the older game datasets preinstalled, so you only have to add one folder to Crafty's dataset (the GMOD 11 folder). BTW, you can just keep adding game folders to Crafty for each user mod or game you get, but I can't guarantee they'll always work. Experimentation works best here.
Nem's also got a tool for unpacking VPK files; however, I've found Crowbar easier to use:
steamcommunity.com/groups/Crow…
You will need this to unpack the VPKs for CSGO, so you can port the CSGO maps others have recompiled/modded for the older games. Crafty seems to have a lot of trouble handling VPKs, so it's best to just hand it the raw CSGO data files (mainly models and textures) and let it take things from there.
Hope all of that helps!

The map I'm trying to port specifically is fan made :c

Though, in the file there is a file named after half-life... so maybe it was done using this method.
Thank you so much for this! I'll give it a try.

Well, I'm not a FNAF fan, but good luck -- and stick with it. It may take more than one try to get everything working properly. Once it does, you'll know it, and then you can port all of the GMOD FNAF goodness you want.

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for all you have done in regards to porting and sharing Source maps to XPS. Thanks a lot and I hope you enjoy a well deserved break from porting them!!
By the way, do you happen to know if NeoTokyo bsp maps can be ported to XPS, or failing that, if you would be familiar with any source maps that are inspired by modern japanese cities and schools that would be more XPS friendly?

DigitalExplorations In reply to UruGodDX [2019-08-05 22:32:05 +0000 UTC]
Yes, they can be ported with Crafty, assuming you have the game and can configure Crafty properly to work with it.
There are all kinds of Oriential maps out there for the Source engine. I know, because I went through a bunch of them a while back looking for ones I needed to pose a web comic set in Japan. As for city maps I've personally ported, "gm_akiba" is probably the best known and most realistic, although "de_overdrive" is no slouch if you're looking for something with more of a Hokkaido bent. There's all kinds of temple, garden, and dojo Source engine maps, and even a few older era villages as well. I featured "cs_oriental" in that web comic; it's a very nice garden and building complex map. Others in the same vein but with more of a temple feel are "de_asia," "de_ganbaru," and "de_kyoto." A unique city map is "gg_tokyo_rooftop." Also, "mg_shinobi" is worth a look. There's all kinds of other ones out there, especially dojo maps. I'd just take a day browsing around at GameBanana or garrysmod.org (or on Steam if you have an account) and see what there is to find. You'll have to look, though. You can't always count on a name or title search. Good luck.

Brilliant work on these map ports! as an indie game developer(programmer) I find this to be the best and most useful source of level design out of any other xnalara deviants. When I search for maps on deviant art usually their too small to make game out of. I've got so many games finished(personal projects) with all these large and outstanding maps and really appreciate it. It saves so much time and money, the quality here is as good as the unity asset store.
I heard that something happened to your old deviant account, hopefully it doesn't happen again. Keep up the good work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DigitalExplorations In reply to ToraKazuyuki [2019-05-15 01:22:51 +0000 UTC]
I don't have a sci-fi lab set proper, although I used "dm_tech" as one by adding the appropriate objects. I've got the Trek TOS shuttle in two different forms, somebody else did the Mass Effect shuttle, and someone else ported a very good SketchUp shuttle/small craft cockpit for XPS use. Just do a dA search and you'll eventually find them.
