I do ink some of the lines twice to make the drawing more 3D, but that's it. Very simple technique. They did it in Disney's Aladdin too. There's no need to bee jealous. ^^

I generally work in various layers with the colors I use. So I will start out with layers of very flat single colors, and build them up slowly, until I can get closer to the final color I want. At first, the pieces look very washed out and bland. I don't add the heavy ink lines until later, since they can smear easily, and the markers tend to fade the lines.
It usually takes a few layers of different markers (2-4+) before the colors become solid and bold. You can also do unique texture shading with markers while layering the colors, which adds depth. Having a steady hand helps, which is why it's good to become more familiar with the markers via practice and small color experiments.
I can add more detail to certain pieces with color pencils or a gel pen, which usually work fine on top of the markers. Then once it's all colored, I add the inks on top, so they are super bold and not washed out by the markers. I generally work on bristol paper or illustration board. Illustration board is probably the best, since it can absorb a lot of marker and ink layers without the surface tearing up or the paper warping.
I really love smooth, cartoon-y colors and lines, so I strive to attain that in my work. It doesn't always happen, but it's fun for me, so I'll keep at it. I hope that helps answer your question!
