Hey!! How are you guys?

Found the photo you posted of myself and ~Soldier-of-Industry from the Labyrinth Ball on flickr - I completely stumbled over your gallery, hadn't even thought to search for LoJ photos there - but wasn't sure how the comments system worked over there, and I wanted to thank you for putting it up - I hadn't seen a single one of us from that whole trip yet! I won't redistribute it but I saved a copy, faved it and might link to it in the future if that's alright.

I need to spend some time in your gallery - I've had the pleasure of seeing the armor in person, but the masks are something new. Thanks, again, and glad to have found you here ^-^

Thanks very much - but don't go after your masks, you've got some really strong lines, probably a carryover from doing so much armor. I'm a real sucker for the crown piece and I'll leave it its own comment, too, in... probably a month, when I don't have five papers to do... x.x But I'll get to it! It's such a good design...
I'm closer to the community at *LeatherArtisans - they're all obscenely talented, and I haven't told her yet but one of their mods, ~Mparker inspired me to believe the bodice was POSSIBLE; what ~Mask-Making-Artisans offered that the other mask communities didn't was a real focus on the masks as artworks. Unfortunately just being a student tends to eat my time, so my participation is severely limited; I consider myself involved when I have the time to respond to comments within a month!
Thanks a lot for the permissions; I'll probably link to your photo and credit your dA profile from the image description on my bodice showcase (whenever I finally have free time that coincides with any of my photographer friends having free time - I STILL need to take some display shots.)
Can't wait to see your new stuff ^-^

Hello!
Good to hear from you!
Thanks for the favs on flickr. I think their comments are working. Yes, feel free to link that picture any way you want and use it for anything. It really shows off your skills at leather. Your work is awesome. Your masks are clean. I need to work on that with mine, but I just started. How are the clubs you belong to?

No. I didn't know that they had a Sandman movie. Yea, I have read both of those. So good! Have you read The Transmetropolitan by chance?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cyrus-Wade In reply to illiara [2007-05-12 14:44:48 +0000 UTC]

No, I never read Transmetropolitan. Pretty good? How published it? I need to pick up some new graphic novels to read on the train I take to work. I was thinking about Preacher, Hellblazer, and anything else dark or that doesn't involve people in capes.
Maybe I'll try Transmetro, thanks!

illiara In reply to Cyrus-Wade [2007-05-14 17:43:24 +0000 UTC]

Vertigo put it out I believe. vertigo is my fav. <3 Preacher and Hellblazer are BOTH excellent choices. Oh yea, you may want to try Walking Dead and Y The Last Man, too.

Cyrus-Wade In reply to illiara [2007-05-14 20:13:54 +0000 UTC]

Vertigo is the best! Coming in second for me would be Slave Labor Graphics (JTHM, Squee, I feel sick, ect.) ....but they haven't published anything in a long time :-p
I'm going to the comic shop after work today and I take a look at the others you suggested.
Have you ever thought of making your own comic? Putting it on here or on the web?
Thanks for the comic info!

illiara In reply to Cyrus-Wade [2007-05-14 23:54:27 +0000 UTC]

As a matter of fact, I *have* considered doing a "live action" comic. Problem is, I haven't really fleshed it out much further than that. Haha. Be sure and let me know what you think of those comics.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cyrus-Wade In reply to illiara [2007-05-15 15:45:08 +0000 UTC]

A live action comic would be awesome! If you used photographs and altered them with photoshop to make effects, or stylized in some way. With all the different filters and tools PS has there is no limit what you could do. I've been having so much fun learning PS! Do you use it at all?

I read something similar. It had to do with Edgar Allen Poe and demons. I think it was just called Poe. Very dark, very awesome. For the model they used this guy that makes his living impersonating Poe on the East coast. It was a one shot graphic novel. Ever read it?

I had a similar idea. Use live action photos that were heavily altered by PS and them putting them in an interactive flash script to make a type of "choose-your-own-adventure" comic deal (remember those books? hahahaha! I loved them as a kid). I was leaning more to a black and white noir feel to it....but it's never amounted to anything beyond an idea.

Here is the shopping list I picked up yesterday:
Sin City Graphic Novels 1 & 2
The living dead GN 1
Y the last man GN 1
Matrix Comics GN 2
And another graphic novel by Neil Gaimen called Murder's Mystery, I've never hear of it before.
I also had to replace Death: The high Cost of living. I lent it to a friend and never got it back :-p
Thank you so much for the suggestions! I'll let you know how it goes. I'm stating with the Sin City (sooo good!) and working my way through.

illiara In reply to Cyrus-Wade [2007-05-15 16:45:34 +0000 UTC]

Living dead, eh? Do you perhaps mean "Walking Dead"? If not, I haven't read it. lol. Sounds like you have a pretty sweet line up there.

I do in fact use photoshop. Interactive Media Design was my 1st major before I realized how much web programming was involved. ICK! I haven't read that thing with Poe, but I would love to. I dunno if you read any HP Lovecraft, but there is a one shot graphic novel about *him* as opposed to his stories.

Yea, a live action comic would be pretty cool. There is just so much that I want to do and I am having trouble cramming it all in my schedule. ugh. I need to reprioritize again or something.

Cyrus-Wade In reply to illiara [2007-05-15 17:29:35 +0000 UTC]

Opps, yes I mean walking dead....I think, I'll have to check. hehe
Looking forward to reading these comics. They'll make the commute on the train to and from work allot more enjoyable. I was reading Gaiman's 'Mr.Punch' last week and 5 people commented on it after seeing the artwork over my shoulder hahaha. Reactions ranging from disgust to intrigue.

Aversion to web programming? Yeah, I understand. Allot of it can be a pain. ASP, HTML, XML, ect ect. :-p Lots of left brained coding. :-p Syntax = headache. But if you get it down you can make some decent money being creative....well as creative as corporate America lets you be anyway. I'm working as a web developer now for a photography company. It's my first job doing this kind of stuff....it's taken me awhile to get used to being in a cube all day. <*looks around at the walls closing in*>

Lovecraft? Hell yes! I love his work! :-D Did you ever see Dagon? Best Lovecraft movie ever. Are you talking about the graphic novel 'The Watcher in the dark'? I saw that on the self yesterday and almost picked it up. Is it a good read? Some of his work would be awesome to do as a live action comic. Have you read alot of his stories? I think my favorite is 'The Whisper in the dark.' Pretty creepy. I loved how it was written in a series of letters to and from the characters, newspaper clippings, and journal entries. Like Dracula. Do you have a favorite?

Thanks for the friend add. Did you get my comment back with the links to learn leatherwork?

If you like Sandman have you read:
"Death: The Time of Your Life"

and

"Death: the High Cost of Living"
?
Good stuff.

They are going to make the High Cost of living into a movie.....I hope it doesn't go south like the Sandman movie did. Did you hear what happened with that?
