I went to the RMIT open day to look at the animation course. It is very impressive, that too is one of my options but my parents are more focused on
accommodation I am also looking at Swinburne and AIE. Swinburne is new but it is really good! AIE is great too, but that's kind of my fall back
if I don't get a good enough score.

I do post my art there, but it is mostly the stuff I post here. I really only use it to get decent pictures and movie info from other countries.
I look at all the amazing artists on Tumblr who are my age and just feel depressed as I am not as good as them But they are really talented
and draw a lot. Another thing that bugs me is that I look on so many blogs and tons of them are wanting to work in animation and it kind of puts me down
as I know there will be too many to get into the industry, especially if you want to work in Hollywood or something. Oh well, there are many other areas
of animation

Ahh yeah I'm worrying about accommodation too (psst room with me). A lot of friends from school are considering moving to Melb after school (though I wouldn't be quite so thrilled to be living with them); or I might take a year off to work and save up the money. Idk heh. I'm also looking into VCA, but same deal.

It's not really about talent, you just have to work hard. Try new things. Do studies and exercises and grind. Get critiques. Listen to critiques. All that jazz. Don't be depressed, be inspired! (Besides, I've found it's pointless to try and compare yourself to other artists, because you haven't had the same experiences and opportunities: so it's not really a fair comparison. You just have to do the best of with what you have and make up the difference with sheer elbow grease)

Yeah, there are a lot of areas of animation! For myself, I'm not that interested in actual animation, but rather I'd like to work in preproduction. And most folks don't work in big studios, especially not permanently. It's a freelance kind of business. Which means it's not necessarily the most stable of lifestyles, but if it's what you love, then pursue it by all means. You can 'make it' with a little luck and a lot of hard work.

Once we graduate high school we should totally meet up if we go to uni in Melbourne! None of my friends are into art and
I am looking forward to meeting people with the same interests as me when I am older.
BTW, I was looking at applying for Calarts, though it was a sure longshot, mainly because I can't afford that kind of money
and the economy in the US isn't the best. I am also looking at doing AnimationMentor after school, have you heard of it?

Yeah, uni is definitely the place for that sort of thing. High school is just a bunch of kids of approximately the same age , thrown in together for 6 years. And Melbourne is a far better place for finding artist friends than rural Australia, let me tell you.

I considered Calarts but I'm simply in no financial position to even move to the US, let alone pay for housing costs and university fees on top of that. Oh well uwu Just gotta work harder I guess.

I hadn't heard of AnimationMentor, but I looked it up and it seems interesting. I'm not pursuing 3D animation myself, but it could certainly be useful for you. Though, I do think attending an actual uni course would be more beneficial, if more costly; if you had to choose between the two.

I'm glad! My Christmas was nice, if a bit mellow - we spent a lot of money going up to Sydney for a week >__> And I'm planning on going to a con early next year as well, so I wasn't expecting much. But yeah, it was still pretty sweet to spend time with the family.

Christmas was okayyy mostly because I am pretty 'meh' about Christmas... I rolled around my house screaming all my fandoms (Sherlock, Hannibal, Dr Who... You know....) Good that my parents were outside when I was doing that -____-

That sounds fun <: I don't get invited to things, but I'm happy to stay at home and draw anyway. I think I'm going to see the new Hobbit movie on New Years Day, so that'll be fun.

Not meaning to shamelessly advertise, but EnterVOID is a great website if you're serious about art (especially if you're into sequential art and visual storytelling). DeviantART is fun and all, but you can rarely get decent feedback, let alone a good honest critique.And despite the seemingly harsh atmosphere, it's a much nicer community. But, uh, it's ok if you're not into it, haha. I don't have many arty friends and I try to drag them all into Void at some point.

It was good, but I much prefer the first one... The Desolation of Smaug seemed rushed a little...

Mmm, Ill have to watch it again to form my opinion, but at the moment I prefer the first Hobbit movie, it seemed to have more charm. Desolation did include some of my favourite parts of the book though.
