# About me

I'm Clockwork Charlatan, but everyone around here calls me Charlie, which is fine by me. I was a swindler and a salesman before the Helium Wars, but I'm doing my best to change that around now. But that's where the 'charlatan' in my name comes from, if you were curious.

I was a bartender in the City for a while, but I now own the Late Nite Motel in Zone 6 and risk my ass to make sure it stays up and running with actual food and booze. That includes hijacking BLi trucks and taking supply trips to Battery City and the like.

It's 8 carbons a night for starters and all the rooms have 2 beds in it; three meals are included and the drinks are the only thing that cost extra, even if you're an employee with me. It may be a bit more than it usually is out here, but it's worth having a good night where you're not eating food intended for dogs. I have to make a living here and I want customers to be as comfortable as they can be.

Being a man in his mid-30's I sometimes feel like a parent to younger Killjoys, especially the ones I've come to known. I'm patient and a decent boss but won't tolerate laziness. I think the best feeling comes out of good, hard work and a bit of a thrill.

Anyways, drop on by, if you want. I'm usually there to make sure everything's alright and that you're comfortable.

Razor--Rave [2016-09-04 14:28:26 +0000 UTC]

...Earth to Charlie.

*he was sweating from head to toe but still bore that wide smile as he pored down his brother*

Let's go for a swing at Velvet, I have a surprise for you. You like sittin' in fast cars?Β

Clockwork-Charlatan In reply to Razor--Rave [2016-09-04 23:16:34 +0000 UTC]

Don't tempt me, Razor.

*Charlie was already awake and in his office, grinning right back at him; he was in a better mood than he typically was now that Ace and Bogey were back home and resting*

A surprise for an old man like me? *chuckles* I'm 36 today...but if I'm not driving fast cars I enjoy sitting in them. Sure!

Razor--Rave In reply to Clockwork-Charlatan [2016-09-05 14:48:20 +0000 UTC]

You'll dig this one, I'm sure. Come on!

*he took his brother's hand - was he shaking a little? he turned around and beamed at Bogey, who looked her part today; dead*

You can come too, you know.

Clockwork-Charlatan In reply to Razor--Rave [2016-09-05 20:18:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh, alright; if you insist.Β

*Charlie took note of Razor's trembling but didn't say anything about it, only to follow and smile gently at Bogey and Ace, who was close with a hand on her hip*

It'd be good for the two of you to get out of that room for a while.

Razor--Rave In reply to Clockwork-Charlatan [2016-09-10 14:45:01 +0000 UTC]

Ah, fine. But know zat I don't like 'im.

You only hate me because you lost your chain to me in a game of Poker. Which Johnny did take and gave back to you, mind, lady. Do you think you're always the winner?

Oui. *with that Razor laughed and led them along; he had the biggest, most beaten, sturdiest car in Velvet and it took him time to budge the doors open, but it started with no more bumps and he drove to the tune of David Bowie blaring on the player*

*meanwhile, Bogey was at the back seat, and contemplating the interesting Polaroids casually strewn around* 'Ey, look, he's got one of you, Lucas. *she picked one up and showed it to Ace, a face caught in a mid-yawn, with a smirk, handed it over to Charlie* You should've been a photographer.

I'm afraid they're not as sought out as artists. *Razor makes a turn; actually a pretty careful driver* So it remains a hobby.

*In the late afternoon/early evening hours, a dirty, a bit frumpled, Clarissa plopped herself onto a barstool in the Late Nite, a cloud of dust floating off her bag when she set it down*

*Charlie was manning the bar that evening and narrowed his eyes slightly, recognizing the young lady right away and smiled warmly over at her, passing over a glass of ice water as Bert snooped from the kitchen XD*

It's been a while, although I don't believe I've seen you in my bar before!

Long time no see.

*She of course recognizes Charlie and flashes him a smile*

And I don't think I've ever seen you in proper clothes.Β

*She gives him a cheeky wink as she takes a sip of the water*Β

You clean up nice.

*Charlie ran a hand through his lightly tousled hair and chuckled, appearing a bit sheepish as Bert giggled in the background*

Well, we did happen to take a swim, so that would be a given now, wouldn't it?

*he quirked a brow and smiled again, tugging at his shirt sleeve*

But thank you, though...and what brings you back here after such a long time?

*she takes another sip of her water, propping a hand under her chin once she's done, eyes sparklingΒ mischievously*Β

I've been here and there, mainly laying low down south of the city. Spotted this place though on my way Northwest though, and I remembered quite a charming guy from the beach talking this place.Β

*he topped off the water with a nearby pitcher without a hitch, his hospitality always spot on as his grin never really left his face*

Well, I am glad you dropped by for a visit; so many people come and go these days that it's sad to see them go. Of course, I have my usual tenants here but even a few of them have moved and only come back for a few days at a time.

This place is a neutral zone, a safe haven, so it doesn't surprise me that many flock here.

*when he's glancing away for a moment, with years of practiced ease she throws a few shakes of salt into her water from the salt shaker near her hand, sipping at it innocently when he glances back*

Well perhaps that is part of the draw, it being more quiet. I've been to a few places around, including that Velvet Goldmine.... it gets quite rowdy quite often.Β

*she glances off to the side in a way that makes Charlie question if she was rolling her eyes or not*

*Charlie didn't seem to notice Clarissa's addition to the water, or if he did, he didn't seem to mind or care as he turned back around, straightening the cuffs on his sleeves*

The Velvet Goldmine is a wonderful place, too, but it's not a motel or place of residence save for the employees that work there. But the people are cordial and I see why it's popular...

Do you not care for it?

I've met a few people employed there...ruffled a few feathers. I've never been back since, mainly because I like being the biggest Duchess of Sassytown, but I got upstaged by the Prince Bitch so....

*she makes a face, one that betrays a bit of her feeling ofΒ upstage,Β laced with annoyance yet smug with the promise of later revenge*

... I guess it's a pride thing.

*they stopped when they reached him, however, and while Lavender kept her stance Roy waved eagerly* How're you doing, gentleman of the Zones?

*Razor snorted from his table nearby; having a drink with Anderson himself - the priest was trying hard to not stare at the albino girl; she looked as dainty as ever, but a bit...withering, perhaps? She looked even thinner than the day she came in*

I have a letter to deliver.

*he took it out; the beige envelope, from his coat with a flourish*

And of course I am, what makes you think I'm not from all the time you knew me?

And yes. *dawdled on; robotic voice* A Christmas party hosted by Mr. and future Mrs. Singh, in the theme of the Gatsby. *rolls his eyes briefly* There would be so many people there. How boring. Wouldn't you rather read a nice book in the damn cold December?

...oh, hello.

*Charlie appeared unfazed by Sherlock's sudden appearance, a cigarette hanging from his lips as he was looking over some records; he was obviously distracted, however at the sight of the intruder's expression the cold grudge clear in his eyes melted away*

Iris is doing very well. A bit more social, although she tends to spend the majority of her time with Bert, as I'm sure you're aware of.Β

It's not anything negative for her, either.

...I am very aware of that, thank you.

*doesn't sound so happy, that sharp smile doing no good for the tone, too* You have to realize out of the strangest of people here, we're the strangest of the strangest. We often take whatever's holding our hands down with us.

That being said, *frowns suddenly* I doubt that that ignoramus would listen, or care, so I am here to see if you are alive or not, instead.

Which you are. Good, Khan's words actually got through your skull and you're actually functioning like you're supposed to.

I wouldn't expect anything less of you.

*he glanced down at the records again, quickly jotting something down in scratchy handwriting before closing the book and exhaling a stream of smoke away from Sherlock's face, towards the ceiling*

You'd be surprised; he's not exactly what he appears. Deduce him better next time around. *smirks faintly before sombering, leaning forward*

It took me some time but I suppose his words, as...blunt as they were, was what I needed, along with finding out what my true heritage is.Β

However, there are bigger problems now; the air around us seems...electrified. And not in a good way.

I am deducing him correctly. That's the problem. That's what irks me.

Ignoramus.

*he huffs and crosses his arms very tightly; white pale fingers shaking and light eyebrows furrowed in frustration* But this is the biggest problem, Charlie. Family! Such a stressful thing. I recall my young self rejecting it, rebelling against it, and looking back, I see.

By the time I thought that maybe my family was right all along, I have a family of my own who thinks I'm wrong.

I would've been better off alone. But too late for that, so here I am, pondering over you and why you have that strange leaf on your shoulder.

Nope, Broski, you're not allowed to be that attractive when you sleep. Sit up, have some coffee, and I hope you like some mean noodles for breakfast.

Scrambled eggs for breakfast are out, man. Scrambled eggs for breakfast is toast.

*he presented the tray to the bedside before finding a lap table; everything was as fiery-looking as the cook himself; although it did look delicious despite that*

*the fae herself had settled quietly by the bottom of the bed during all of this; smiling politely as ever*

Goooood morning to you, City slicker! I think the Bossman's up but he's always in. Haven't seen him this morning, though! Finally getting those catnaps he deserves, you know?Β

Anywho...his room's that-a-way...*he motioned to the left with his hand* Head outside, turn left, first set of double doors with three locks you come across. *expression grows serious for a moment as he wags a finger*Β

*he nods to each part of the direction very seriously, as if it was a masterplan map of some sort, and laughed softly at the last part*

We're already in hell, sweetie.

*Charlie was already partially dressed at this point, taking his time as he knew that things were running smoothly overall and enjoying his morning; with him still being the workaholic he didn't want to take too long but was satisfied with even this short bit he had to himself*

*he heard the knocks and stretched, buttoning up his shirt and tucking them into his slacks before unlatching the locks and opening the door to see who it was, yawning quietly*

- Just kidding! *quickly focuses on Charlie's face instead; an impish grin on his face* I'm just here for family business.

*clears his throat* ...Y'see, a while ago you talked to a little lady and that little lady told me of your story, and asked for me to get what I could. *motions to the bag in his hand; and suddenly his voice dropped* Lavender said your father is Nathaniel Ivon, and she's never wrong about these things. So here...are what remains of him. A will to you, if you can put it that way.

Buuuuuut. If you want nothing to do with the affairs of faefolks you tell me right now, and *snaps his fingers* Both Lav-Lav and I won't bother you about it again. I'll go right out that door and you'll never see my sorry tush again. She'll come here for the soda cans and not a word of it out of her mouth no more. It's up to you.

Oh! I forgot to introduce myself! *switches the bag to his left hand so he could offer a handshake* Dr.F.Roy Dean Schlippe, at your service in every way..

...Dr. Schlippe. *he seemed rather amused by the alias, smirking faintly as he beckoned him inside and closed the door, however not locking it in fear of appearing completely paranoid*

I don't know much about my father, to be completely honest with you. My mother only told me things here and there but it wasn't something that she enjoyed reminiscing on. She did love my father very much, and now I'm realizing he most likely left due to being in some sort of trouble.Β

But she is not the only one he was with, my half-brother is evidence for that. However, I would like to know more about him. What kind of person he was like; if he was a truly genuine individual or a scoundrel.

*he sat down in his rather lavish chair, motioning to the once across from him* It doesn't matter if he was or not. I just...I just would like to know.Β

...You're straight and I scared you.

As usual. Hey, they didn't used to call the LGBT folks 'fairies' from nowhere! Back in those hippie chain days in Camden...

...That's a story for later. *he sat down and crossed his little legs; pointy shoes glinting in the light, sliding the luggage over to the table in between them; voice turning deathly serious again* Nathaniel Ivon was a very highly respected individual in the faen society. Born and raised well, he was gifted with great healing talents, and was given the opportunity to serve the King and Queen, along with a fine wife from a Jewel House...

*clicks the suitcase open; a set of exquisite silver blades, a wand made out of pure crystal, along with arrangements of other jewels, and a thick white journal was laid inside it*

...But of course, that was a stiffy life and he said no, packed his bags and disappeared for twenty years.

Of which, along the way, he made you...

*someone knocked on the door before coming in; Razor was actually scratch-free for once, and he tried to recognize where he saw Roy from while Roy was appreciating his fine features*

...and you. Hello, there!

Oh, our sexual preferences have nothing to do with whether you startled me or not; quite frankly you just startled me...although I should be getting used to early morning visitors now, to be honest.

*he chuckled faintly before leaning forward a little bit, blue eyes curiously peering at the luggage on the coffee table before meeting Roy's gaze again, listening intently to what the fae had to say about the man that he knew so little about, the man that he wanted to know everything about now that his roots were there out in the open*

*as the suitcase opened his eyes widened considerably, feeling the power emitting from each item as they were laid out; surely those things were priceless and yet they seemed to be calling to him in some strange way*

And what happened that he disappeared like that--

*he turned to see who entered and smiled warmly at Razor* Come in! Today's the day we get some answers.

Ahhhhh, you will, one of these days. Or you'll die.

Let's hope not, I rather like you already.

What happened to the Court, or him? *he hovered a hand over the items, the blades - he didn't dare touch it, out of the uttermost respect for the dead* The Court was angry, but there was nothing they could do - technically speaking, we are all free as we please, it just makes a very, very difficult, solitary life for us if we do. When he returned, he was almost completely ignored by the whole Court, and would've been forced to find a place to live among the...lower classes of the faefolks, but Ros - Sorry, now she's Lavender, she asked for him to be her personal Healer. And all-around servant. Slave? Sort of, but she didn't mistreat him in any way. She'd let him go out and come back as he pleased, in turn of him bringing her various goods from your world.

To tell you the truth, she just wanted to ask him all the questions, get all the nonsense collectibles. *grins* They were both struck with Wanderlust, but unfortunately back then only your father had the courage to seek a path with it...

...Although that got him in a trouble that I think might've costed him his life. But hey, I guess it's worth it for a rogue like him.

*he retold what Razor hasn't heard yet again to him, the younger boy took this in with the most concentration anyone's seen in him; he didn't even look at what's on the table; he just looked angry as he listened to all of this; it was clear he was bitter more than anything over their father; there was no longing in his jaded heart*

*she appeared - but only at the front of his door, even if she could just get in; manners, and she was afraid she'd get a bullet in the head for scaring him*

*knocks on the door softly; as usual for her petite (calm) self* Charlie...Charlie. It's Hex.

*he had been resting in his room for once when he heard the knock, tilting his head at the noise and rising at the sound of Hex's voice, buttoning the top few buttons of his shirt before answering the door with a faint smile*

...good morning, Hex...come in...what brings you here? Is everything alright?

Oh, I'm fine.Β

*she smiled up widely at him as she got in; that coat in the odd shade of green on her that'd look hideous on anyone else but on her it just clicked* I was worried to death about you, though! How are you doing so far? Are you alright? Ever since that last time...

And for Cerberus's sake, John! The gas station will still be there once we get out! Come on, now!

*John Watson jolted from the far corner of the hall; he had come here with her too, and was very invested by looking out the window, sheepishly ran to her; they shared the same scent again, as usual; today it was apples and jasmine* Good morning! Sorry about that, you have a new neighbour?...

Wonderful, wonderful.

*he smiled just as warmly, if not more so, down at her; there appeared to be a weight that was lifted off of his shoulders and he didn't appear so tired or so depressed; it was as if there had been a positive change with him*Β

I'm doing just fine, yes. Thank you; how about yourself? *at the sight of John he nodded in greeting with that friendly smile on his face*

Good morning. And we do have a new neighbor, yes; his name is Nightshade. Have you both met him before? He's going to be running the gas station from now on and I am rather glad to have it off my hands so it can be cared for properly.

*she tapped her chin; interested in how more radiant he seemed; wondered what kind of magic was done*

I'm quite well, as you can see. *proudly gestures to her coat* Inspired by the moss growing on bat corpses in cave. Wonderful, don't you think? Inspiration is everywhere.

Spare him the details, Nessie. *he nudged her by the shoulder playfully; but the words were lost on her; her face turned horribly pallid and she looked like she was going to throw up*

Ni...

Iie...

E...E...Excuse me...I need to use the loo.

*she hurried off to the nearest toilet and John peered at her; actually looking a bit amused*

...You think she's pregnant again, maybe? Or the talk about mosses got her?

*he took note of her coat with a smile, a bit strained but mostly amused for the most part; of course he didn't want to think about moss growing on bat corpses or anything like that when he was in such a good mood, but he assumed that it was idea for the coat that made her more happy XD*

It's a very good look for you, I think. How are you and Khan doing? Your children?

*after a moment he was about to ask John the same thing but was taken aback from Hex's reaction to Nightshade's name, confusion writing all over his face while he reached out to stop her, however if she was going to the restroom he felt no need to*

*all was silent for a moment before he cleared his throat and stuck his hands deeply in his pockets*Β

...I-I'm not sure what that was. Have you heard of a Nightshade before, John? Anyone at all?
