Hi! Well, I'm assuming that by Canon XS you mean the Canon EOS 1000D, cuz I'm not familiar with the American names. Well, it really only depends on what you wish for. The Canon EOS 1000D is the simplest of the Canon SLRs, and I am really satisfied with it. If you compare it to the Canon 7D or something, it will obviously not have as high shutter speed and ISO values, but I'm happy with the ones that I have, because I focus more on the Aperture, and therefore don't experiment with ISO and shutter speed too much. However, since depth of field is what has always mesmerized me most about a camera, I'm planning to get a new lens which has smaller apertures. I'm sorry I cannot make any comparisons between the camera I have and the Nikon D60, I don't know anything about the Nikon SLRs. However, if you are thinking about wether getting a Canon 1000D, or a Canon 450D, people often opt for the Canon EOS 450D because they think it is better than the 1000D one just because it costs more again and is sort of the middle-affordable one. However, the only differences I have seen are that the 450D in addition has a Image Stabiliser, and 2 more focusing points, which in my opinion aren't worth paying 200 Euros more for..
I hope that helped you a bit, even though I couldn't compare it to the Nikon D60.. : )

It did! Thank you very much I'm still looking into it, but, as you said 1000d looks just fine. I don't think it's worth paying that much for just couple of minimal improvements in the 450d.
