it was of two cats, a dark brown tabby named Darkshadows and a light brown spotted one named Cherryblossom cuddling with a red cat leaving named Robinflight, it was a request for my friends ArualMeow and someone who owned Dark, i don't remember their dA name D:

I've had a couple incidents of this happening to me and it can be really hard to stop on your own. Both times my work was stolen, one of my watchers had found it for me. It really helps to have people looking out for your work, but you mainly need to watermark everything you make. And not off to the side of your work, I've been trying to create a small overlay so it's harder to photoshop out for the more determined art thief.
But having your work taken and claimed as someone else hurts as it trivializes your piece and all the work that went into it. Plus, it also takes important attention away from you as an artist as majority of us on this site are trying to build our reputation:/
Still, I do think that deviantart does a good job of responding to art theft...its more theft elsewhere that's harder to track
