Skype takes a lot more resources up than just using an internet browser to temporarily load pages and then cache them. Skype requires a constant connection and streaming chat and the possibility of voice or video chat and... yeah.

Sorry for last night; my kindle hate me. If I use it too long, the battery over heats and stops charging until I let it cool for a couple hours. It kind of died on me...stopped charging >.< XD
