Thanks Lauren. How are things going? Just wrote a letter of recommendation for your brother to go to architecture school at U of O, exciting eh?

Things are going well! How has this year been for you? It's definitely been a while since we last talked. I am very excited for Matthew, glad he finally got off his lazy butt and applied. He was worrying me a bit for a while, but it sounds like he got it in right in time.

I have been doing well. Yeah I was glad to see that he applied and all, I suspect you two will have fun both being there for 2 years at the same school again.
My year has been going well, still a bit disconnected and all, but time will fix that as much as anything will.
My AP students are doing amazing work and I just put together a "best of photo I" file from my photo I classes this fall. I will post some small pics of their work, it is amazing.
So what is new and exciting with you Lauren?

I can't wait to see the AP work, I miss that part of high school more than anything else, honestly. Would have been fun to have more than a year. How are the photo classes? Are they mainly digital these days?
Can't wait to be in Eugene with Matthew, it will definitely be a fun time...
Nothing too exciting happening here. I have been having a ridiculously hard term. Have an art history midterm that is going to kick my butt if I don't get a move on it, plus some other tough classes. In the process of quitting my job to be a little more sane and happy, and I'm hoping to make more art in that time. Seriously reconsidering the major again, think I was just in a weird slump and I want it again... Funny how that works.

Of course, lots of great stuff is making its way into your DA gallery. Summer is busy, and I've had some fun, but mostly I've just worked, slept, and pinched pennies to essentially keep myself alive. That in itself is an experience, but I'm anticipating school heavily.
How was your summer, and how is the new school year treating you? You aren't the new guy any more by any definition at North.

You're welcome, simple idea but its turning out really interesting. I'm sure there will be more along the way.
No plans, but I'm excited all the same. Sooo ready for this term to be over.

Totally. Just be sure to get out of town over Spring Break, as everyone else will return with stories from Acapulco, tans, and other interesting things, you will have watched some plants b
loom in Eugene. Even if it's just to the coast or Seattle, get out of town for at least part of Spring break.

Doing good, just trying to to kill myself. Drowning in 18 credits, 2 jobs, and lots of failing art, haha. It's reall not so bad though. Saw you at Arianna's wedding briefly, turned around and you were gone. Anything new?

Was wanting to say hi, but I guess you were busy at that moment. Ended up spending most of the time talking with Shane, Benji and crew.
Yeah college can kill you if you are not careful. That was one nice thing about working for the U and doing staff rate tuition (I started doing the end of my sophomore year) was that it only covered the first 12 credits, so that is all I took. 12 each term and then 12 in summer. But that only makes sense economically, if you are staff of the university.
As far as new, not much. The semester is ending, finals start tomorrow, and just taking some time out to make some art. Going to hit the life drawing group again tomorrow, see what happens.
How about with you? What classes are you taking this term?

Boogie0ndowwn In reply to OregonArtTeacher [2009-01-27 07:56:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I know I'll get through it, and my scholarship only covers the 44 credits each year, so next term I can only take 10 free. Kind of annoying but it will be nice because I can work more.
How's AP and the new digital class? Your life drawings are becoming really interesting. I've tried so hard to do art on the computer, I just don't think it's my "thing." I'm so spoiled to have a tablet and nice software but still can't do anything remotely attractive.
This term I'm taking basic design (lots of collage and helpful but mundane procedures), spanish 102, writing, queer studies, and a PE course.

Ah I see, I forgot that you got a scholarship there, that helps but does create certain boundaries eh?
AP is going well. I will see, I am confident on 6-8 portfolios going out, and possible that more like 10 will (not so certain though). The group is good, we get to meet more often and discuss things. We have also done a couple of field trips, and I am planning a couple for this spring, including one to the U of O. Would be perhaps be around to join up with us for that one? Would be sometime in March, before Spring break. probably on a saturday.
Digital art, I have often hated over the years, and only relatively recently come to like a bit. I would recommend taking a couple classes in it. I would love to have a tablet though...
Sounds like fun classes this term. College is such an interesting series of events is it not?

Yeah! Let me know when and I'm there if I can be.
And the classes are interesting but overwhelming. I fail the art class if I miss more than once... It meets for 2 hours 3 times weekly. KILLING ME.
Congrats on more students actually going through with it! Nice.

That sounds intense, but yeah they are not so into folks missing classes in the art department.
Talked to your brother the other day, seems he is interested in Architecture eh? You two are quite the amazing pair there.

Thanks for the favorite there Lauren. Saw Luisa the other day, she seems to be doing very well. It is exciting to have all of you kids off living your lives and going places.
