oof aaw I see it's undertandable eh it does suck and can be a downer sometimes :c it's hard but you can only tell yourself that no ,that one popular artist, didn't just gain such a massive following outta nowhere it took them all as much time ! there are a few lucky happy fews but like in anything 
plus it's a matter of there being over a thousand people on this website wishing for the exact same thing than you being "a shit" it's absolutely false ! I'm glad you're back on track ! and if really you are a bit wary of it not working maybe you could make a thing for the heck of it ! something you find fun, entertainement and enough freedom in to do ! but you wouldn't mind too too much people not noticing if it didn't work out exactly as planned or if it did gain attention you wouldn't feel overwhelmed with having to satisfy everyone and keep having a blast with !
Tbh same as you xD but talking with people can be one of the keys ! I'd be more hooked to some artist who genuily wants to talk and just actually feel there with an identity other than just their art than some big cold commission "hey here's my patreon give me money or stfu" factory machine ! to get noticed you really gotta put yourself out there I think ! I do not have the exact science behind that /lmao otherwise I'd be effing there already xD/ but for example doing fanarts !
/not forcefully what's hype to bandwagon atm , unless you do really like it/ but stuff you genuinely enjoy and you wish could get known by more people ':33 !

yeaaah i always do things which seems me fun, interesting and antertaining and im happy when i finish it and see the result even if no one notice i know that i like it haha
but anyway it may make me down when i do alot and gets nothing, of course no one take it easy i guess exept of lucky ones so i will continue and raise and even if i think i do alot in fact i think it's still not enough efforts applyed :"D so i should do more
and the main thing i think is to save your passion to drawing and animation, everything done with inspiration and passion is great!
