Hi, I've been working on a similar style of caricature to what you do so well, but it feels like my work is currently walking a fine line between looking like a successful caricature vs just looking like a bad attempt at realistic drawing. If you have any pointers I'd love to hear them.

Hello, I love your caricature work - it's the benchmark for what I want to achieve! I have a few questions;
1) What software do you use? I'm guessing Photoshop, but hoping that something like Manga Studio would get the same results.
2) And what about hardware? Do you use a Cintiq or just regular tablet without a screen? Have you tried the Surface Pro?
3) Do you start and finish completely in digital form, or begin with pencil/paper then scan it and trace?
4) Did you go to art school, or self taught?

1. photoshop cs5 and sometimes painter. i have manga studio but only use it for inks. i have friends who do amazing stuff in manga studio though
2.i use a cintiq 21ux most of the time, i also have an intruos 4 if im working away from home
3. 100% digital from start to finish
4. i went to art school, but learned everything Β about digital art after i graduated

Seeing your latest work got me thinking; have you tried using either the Surface Pro 4 or iPad Pro/Pencil for digital art? I'm considering getting one of them and am interested to hear feedback from artists who have tried them.

never used either of those, i played around with a surface pro that a friend of mine has and wasnt too impressed with it. if you are serious about art i would recommend investing in a cintiq companion if you need something mobile. its more money than the surface pro but its definitely worth it
