Haha they're all brilliant! I've recently drenching myself in a combination of the Young Justice TV series and Green Lantern and Gotham City Sirens comics, so your marvelous stylized illustrations were very appealing to me at the moment haha.

Yep-o! I just got back yesterday. Totally alive. Well mostly alive... I got this gross stomach bug from somewhere in Vanuatu that is really cramping my stomach's style. How've you been?

Ahhh such fun. Mind you, you've just been to Vanuatu on a Cruise liner, soooo I'm thinkin' a stomach bug's worth it
Aside from an uncool stomach, how was it? Does Mitch have DA? he should; I've been reading his comics and pissing myself laughing, particularly the one featuring you and some schoolies juvies. Such utter brilliance, all the more because it was true.
I'mmm gooood. It's gross here at the mo...freakin' heat. But life is well =] I'm trying to get back in to writing... but I can't seem to manage it. I need proper inspiration, and I seem to always revert back to using a particular song as my muse...then I get bored. Help?!

I wasn't actually that fond of the actual cruise itself. It was too luxurious and dislustional. You know it's a whole bunch of middle and lower class citizens paying a buttload of money to buy a small amount of time in hyper-reality to party and get drunk in the tropics. Which would have been fine had it not been at the expense of all the seemingly endless east asian staff who run the and opperate the ship and resturants. I found out that the guys who clean all the cabins like twice daily and make your bed and stuff get paid only $240 a month and they're employed for like 6-8 months at a time working full days every day. So I felt really uncomfortable whenever I was being served and stuff and trying to process the whole kingdom of God thing and working out how to humanise people. It's hard because despite the small pay in comparison to Australian employees, working on a cruise is apparently one of the best jobs people of their nationality can aspire too because of how crummy all the other ones are.
The part I loved however were visting the island and different cultures. At first I was a little aprehensive because it did feel like we were invading small island nations purely for tourism and the island folk were putting on a show and exploiting their culture to make money of us magical white people. But on one of the island we actually got to meet and befriend some of the people and humanise them and got to understand their culutre a little better and they actually enjoy all the tourists coming and had no problem with it. So that was the best bit meeting people and getting to know them. I was even offered to go back there and teach english when I finish my teaching degree and I'd have contacts and a place to stay haha. So yeah that was cool. That and these amazing amazing waterfalls we swam in in this rainforest in Vanuatu that was like all these different sized pools, some you could jump into, some you could hide in, some even had naturally occuring waterslides. It was awesome. So yeah it was cool. I would go back to the islands again but not a cruise ship.
Mitch has a DA. It's this: [link]
It's not offically his, him and his other friends own it. He told me off one time for trying to contact him through it. But it's largely Mitch influenced and maintains the bulk of his comic inventory. I say bulk because he NEVER updates. But yes I love that kid's work.
And yeah writer's block can be pretty lame sometimes. When I try to come up with ideas I sometimes I like pick a genre and be like "Ok... well what would that look like if I redefined that?" So I do a lot of research into that genre and learn as much as possible. Learn the cliches and tropes and things that make that genre familar and then when I write I try and twist them up and mix them with the Benisms and things that are uniquely me. So then when people read or experience my work it's sort of familar teritory but also brand new and exciting. So I've explored things like fantasy, videogames, pirates, the occasional noir idea, sci-fi and of course superheroes that way. And I like it cause each time you get to create a fresh new world in that genre setting and populate it with your original characters.
Additionally you could just mashup two pre-exising genres to create an entirely new one like for example... hm... um... like sci-fi and hm... just spitballing here, maybe... western?
Haha I don't know. But that's how I do most things. Start sculpting a world or characters via drawings or small snippets of writing, do some mock character bios and let each thing you add inspire the next idea. That's how I get most of my inspiration.

Yayayayayayay! I saw them, they are awesome. I shall link them in my journal.
And I won't be able to colour them for a while. Next week I am going to camp and then another camp and then my family is going on a cruise. But before I go I shall compile a list of details of other characters and send it your way so you can draw some if you like.

Oooh a cruise... ah, to be that rich Nah, I jest. Have fun! Whenever's good. I'm not fussed. They'll just sit there ein their imperfection until your return.

Benji-Ninja In reply to havoc-wreaked [2011-01-06 05:17:18 +0000 UTC]
Haha I am actually not looking that forward to the cruise. It intertupts the camp I'll be on and after YiTS and even slighly before it seems too be too overindulgent. Like I apprecaite holidays like last year we went to america and appart from like las vegas (which is an absolute disgusting city. Never go it's not glamerous like on tv, the streets are litterally paved with porn.) I really enjoyed the america trip because when we were in Texas we were meeting all these people and visting historical sites and culture. But yeah a cruise apart from visting islands which will be cool seems more like spending a week in a shopping center and the culture of like drinking and partying on the ship doesn't appeal so much to me. But family friends are going too so it should be fun but I am just cautious towards it. I guess I'll have to try and redeem cruise ships haha.
Also I believe you typoed and meant "sit there ein their perfection"

havoc-wreaked In reply to Benji-Ninja [2011-01-06 07:01:54 +0000 UTC]
Well, you got the "ein" instead of 'in' right as a typo... not so much the rest they need colour to be truly perfect!
Go forth and redeem the cruise, Benjaman! I believes in you! use that super strength/speed/etc you got and change the world!! Or... the ship and I'll pray for no icebergs Who knows, you could change your name to Jack and meet some hot rich girl called Rose and fall in love and change her life... and hopefully not die in the process. Anything is possible if you just believe in yourself! You could turn her super as well and you can save the ship! Yayyy!
..don't mind me as I plan your life for you

Well see if I was Jack and dying in a girl's arms, I wouldn't whimp out and let go. I'd totally hang on and be resuced and live happily ever after.

havoc-wreaked In reply to Benji-Ninja [2011-01-06 09:00:10 +0000 UTC]
I like that better. Stupid Jack... can't even get dying right. But it was partly the chick's fault, 'cause she had to hog all the space on the big doors. They totally could've fit both of them on there if they snuggled. Fools. They mustn't have liked each other all that much if they couldn't manage to keep each other alive.
Perhaps I shall have to draw an epic picture of this cruise... I'm getting inspired

Bahaha thankyou Georgia! Most of my pictures on deviantart aren't V.I.R.T.U.E., most of them are Starworks which is my other brain child and world that I've been drawing pictures for since grade 2. It's more of a fantasy/video gamey world as opposed to superheroes. But thankyou. Hey also is there meant to be more pictures on your DA? I can only see one. The reall cool revelation one with the dragon!

Hey Ben, haven't talked to you in a while... How's VCE going? And hopefully your years been pretty good man
π: 0 β©: 1
Benji-Ninja In reply to MaZzStRiKe [2009-10-10 11:54:13 +0000 UTC]
Hey man, how's it going?
Yeah VCE is ok I guess. Getting down the crunch time. First exam in like 20 days. It's pretty scary stuff cause I know I am totally not ready yet. But it's ok, because I know the one thing I've learned this year, that's made it a pretty awesome year is that God has a plan and a purpose for everyone's life including mine. In the grand scheme of things a VCE result is a speck in the universe. But I know that whatever score I get, God will use that to guide me to where ever he wants me and use me in that position to further glorify him.
So in that sense VCE isn't that scary at all as I cling to that promise.
But yeah, I hope that starts to makes more sense to you as you begin your VCE next year haha.
Anyway it was really good to hear from you again. Very much a delight to receive your message out of the blue.

I posted this on my journal, but here it is more personal.
Nice to meet you, Benjamin! Your original guess that my hair is brown is correct. I like your reference to the Windows taskbar to name my eye color, but my eyes are green, teehee! Nice, though! Intense hazel sounds like a lovely color.
Taylor Swift rox. :3
Wow, 8 years of Japanese and almost no retention? A shame! But Spanish can indeed sound cool sometimes, and Mayan is astounding-looking, as you've stated, as well!
To answer your question, I found you through someone I'm watching: you commented on their profile thanking them for a favorite, I believe, and you had a cute avatar so I had to checkyoo out!
You haven't given blood? You can find out your blood type if you do!
God is indeed wonderful.
Yeah! I am re-watching Sailor Moon too, and it is so bad how they dubbed it, hahaha. Chrono Trigger, Mario, Ocarina of Time, and PokΓ©mon rock!
Thank you for taking the quiz and providing intriguing answers, m'dear!

Benji-Ninja In reply to HugsAreFree [2009-10-08 09:34:33 +0000 UTC]
Wow thanks a bundle Miss Alonely. I do feel special that you took all that extra time to analyze my answers and reply back twice haha.
I was so close to guessing to guessing your appearance. I thought about putting green eyes but I've never actually seen anyone with proper green eyes so I didn't put it down. But hey, 1/2 isn't that bad right? Haha
And yes Taylor Swift rox! I love her songs they're all so sweet and catchy. You can tell she really means her songs when she sings them. Unlike recycled garbled electropop. And I can actually say that I've moshed to Taylor Swift haha. At a camp I lead on recently, one of my friends and his band played rock versions of "love story" and "you belong to me". Of course it was nowhere as good as the originals but it was a lot of fun jumping up and down to them.
And yeah the 8 years of Japanese was through my school. So the first 5 years were just flashcards and then later we started learning a couple of words but the course was structured badly. And then there was this one year where at the start of the year I passed a Japanese test so i was moved into the "Advanced group" which meant I just sat in a corner with 4 other kids from my class playing some Japanese shopping computer game we didn't understand while the rest of the class learned. I also used that time to draw pictures when the computer game got boring.
And wow, I am impressed you liked my avatar. It's a really junky looking thing. I've always intended to make a better one or an animated one but 50x50 pixels is really difficult to work with and I can't be bothered to make an animated one. But obviously my unupdated avatar worked to my advantage this time and I met you haha.
Oh and I've always wanted to give blood! Well... I mean I like the idea of giving blood. Needles and removal of blood still sort of freaks my out but I know that it's a really good idea and very helpful for the community and stuff and you get free biscuits and cordial. So I'd like to do it one day. I think my class was going to do it as an excursion but it was too much legal stuff for the teacher to work out or everyone had to be 18 or something.
Yep, God is absolutely amazing. Owe my whole life to him.
Haha yeah american Sailor Moon is so tacky. But after like 20 episodes the translation starts to grow on you.
Anyway thanks for the quiz it was a lot of fun and I am glad you enjoyed my answer. It's been an absolute pleasure to watch and meet you Miss Alonely.
