We primarily used Maya for animation, except for the shadow... that was animated in AfterEffects and then brought into Maya as a "light projection". it was all put together with Final Cut Pro... And i have no idea if any of that made sense, but if you have any more questions feel free to send them along.

lol it made sense, but I always see that in order to make a nice 3d animation, you need several programs to bring it to life. Maya, Aftereffects, final cut pro and a new computer with more memory to fit it all lol.

im just glad my tuition finally did something for me instead of being a constant drain.

Well thank you so much. I'm actually trying really hard to make something like a little series for my band. Like a cartoon or 3d animation about my rock band. So a mix of Dethklok and the Gorillaz.
How long did it take you to make that small animation?
I'm just wondering on how hard and how much time it would take to make a ten minute episode of band updates lol

awesome idea! it took 6 of us, working an average of 12 hours a day, for 10 weeks to complete the film. And honestly that was a very very rushed pace... we were at our wits end with the project after that. But that was done in 3D...
i know 2D animation drawn on paper would have taken even longer...
my suggestion would be to go the Flash animation route...
i dont know much about how to do it but i know there are tons of tutorials out in cyberspace on how to animate in flash. And for a 10 minute episode... Flash is definately the way to go... thats how the Gorillaz do alot of their stuff. it allows you to do alot of work fairly quickly. For that... and this is me guessing... it might take someone who does flash animation alot... maybe a couple weeks.
but as always it totally depends on how much detail you want in your backgrounds and in your animation.
