Hey Aaron, take a look at my newest piece (Solar Radi) and answer me a question. If I use photoshop to add lighting to a piece can I set the spotlight to use the darkest part of the image as the ambient lighting? At the monent when I add spotlight or directional effects it sets the whole image to black and brightens it from there, I want it to maintain the lighting of the image and light it from that point. In other words I want it to resemble a spotlight in an already well lit room, not a spotlight at night.

Quick and dirty solution: Make a new layer filled with white, put the spotlight the way you want it on that layer, and then set the blending mode to "screen". Then play around with it. I'll show you next time I see you.
