Did you ever happen to get your April Story Julian?
I'm thinking of getting one myself, because of the sale, and I'm wondering your opinion on it and any photos if you happen to have them.

Yes, I actually got him on last friday
It took them roughly four month to make him, most likely because they got a lot of orders because of their last event.
You can see his box-opening here, I switched it on public ->
ara-xiii.livejournal.com/15239…
I personally like the mold, it is a bit like a Switch/Volks love-child of some sorts, and the head is also on the bigger side.
The doll itself is well made, but he came with a few little faults, like he has little dents in his face, but that's from the sculpting process, nothing majorly bad.
He can't sit that well for some reason but stands and poses fine mostly.
What I dislike are mainly his hands, he has crazily tiny hand joints and huge hands, and how thin the resin is in some places. I'm so afraid to break him while posing, also because he feels pretty light. I have to see how well he ages, but I haven't heard yet that they are prone to break.

Yikes ;o;
yeah, Im not a big fan of the hands either, super huge and way too crazy veiny for my taste.
If you didn't see the news, they're shutting down and merging with some other company. So it looks like they're casting their remaining resin that's on hand, and selling premade dolls. They're promising 1-7day shipping time on top of the 40% discount, so it's tempting :/ especially since it's "my last chance"
But there are so few owner photos and so few reviews, sigh :[
Thank you for your review and box opening, though!
so much to think about *ponder ponder ponder*

This so much. I have chunky 70cm guys with smaller hands than him (and I'm not even talking about my lanky Dollshe guys), and they just look really weird on him.
Yeah, I read that yesterday :C
I was a bit shocked, I highly dislike it when a company stops producing a doll I own from them...especially in their case where finding a replacement would be pretty much impossible in case something happens to him.
I'm really not sure if the 7 day shipping already applies now?
I thought it applies when they start working with the new company in future x_x?
Else this would be really awesome.
And yes, there are really not that much people who own their dolls, the discussion threads on DoA are also pretty small.
I know a lot of people bought their bodies for Switch heads though, since they make these 40% events regulary, but else?
Not much to report.

Knibitz In reply to AraDolls [2014-04-10 20:02:02 +0000 UTC]
yeah :/
Oddly enough, I, too, was looking into redolling my achernar into one of the AS boys since the faces just seemed to match that gentle aesthetic while still having a lot of structure and interesting features. Not to mention being the proper size to hang with his SID and SuperGem family 8D
and does the 7 day shipping not apply now?? bah X_X that's the big reason I was considering the impulse buy, no wait time to mull it over.
I'm leaning away from it the more I've been sitting here thinking about it. I've gotten two new dolls in the past month (a volks mdd impulse buy from that sale event, being one of them), and two dolls out for face up, so I should probably cool my jets and just let this one go.
400$ probably better spent on shoes and clothing for my poor underprivileged dolls I already own, or just not spent at all X_X
*shakes fist at companies* stop having tempting discount sales >.<

AraDolls In reply to Knibitz [2014-04-10 22:42:18 +0000 UTC]
Ha, if you want I can take a comparison picture of the two heads next to each other XD
The Achernar is currently blank too, so I could just put them next to each other (I kept my Achernar's head out of sentimental reasons, but he's in the box all the time now).
The Julian face is really pretty, it's just the right mixture of realism/anime look to look good with all kinds of dolls, and the size of the body is nice too. He's finally not looking so tiny next to the others anymore.
I'm not sure?x__x
But that's how I understood it, that they want to pair up with the company also to make their waiting times shorter. Maybe ask them via Q&A?
Man, I know how you feel, just today I had a really, really long talk with my girlfriend whether I reaaaaally need the Iplehouse Leonard. That guy just swept me off my feet but I decided against him, with a sad frown, but it was for the best.
However, with Julian...they won't sell them later anymore.
Sadly they don't offer single heads, already asked them about this, so that's not an option either DX

I was already very tempted last GamesCom because they had Hatsune Miku Nendroids in this wonderful Sakura version ;;
Oh man, I need this Snake. Hopefully they will release more MGS Nendroids, I would kill for an Ocelot Nendroid XD

Yeah those special versions are really pretty ;v; This year there's this winter Miku that I think looks super adorable, even though I'm not a Miku fan at all >////<
It'll be exciting to see how the prototype will look like, the drawing looks promising at least :3 I can also imagine how EVA and Boss would look like hahah XD *dowant*

So cute ;-;
The one they had available that I nearly bought was this one -> myfigurecollection.net/item/10…
I had a reaaaaally hard time to resist, but I definitely won't resist a Solid Snake XD
Oh my, a The Boss Nendroid ;-;
I think the ones I'd love to have are Solid, Big Boss, The Boss, Ocelot (young and old), Kaz (Master Miller) and Otacon.
I'd also take a Liquid and Solidus just to have all three brothers XD

Sorry for bothering you again. But you said "If you REALLY want to look like Engie, make-up and a good cap for making you bald is the key." May I ask, what kind of make-up? .-.
Again, sorry for bothering you. ;n;
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AraDolls In reply to Lucur [2012-11-21 11:57:15 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, that's hard to say. We usually use a broad palette of camouflage make-up (which is usually for covering extreme stuff like scars and such), but it comes in a wide range of different skintones so we prefer that.
There are several tutorials out there how to apply a bald cap, and they can all explain that why better than I can (especially since my girlfriend, the BLU Spy, makes all our make-up :'D)
Not the kind of make-up is important, but how you use it to achieve the right look.
Engie has a wide face with visible cheekbones, and his square jaw is very prominent. You need to emphasize that with your make-up, so after putting on a base for getting a smooth skin you better take some greyish tones and apply them below your cheekbones and around your jaw.
This needs a few tries, and I must also admit that this is mostly important for photos since you need heavy make-up to achieve the right look on them.
It also helps to push forward your jaw a bit, since Engie has an underbite, and for applying a fake stubble guides for FTM Transgender can help a LOT!
