I think someone made the mistake of letting Tartakovsky watch "Gurren Lagann". I almost made another meme of that, but...I didn't have the willpower for it.
Of course, that one was a whole different kettle of fish. By having things big enough to fight by throwing galaxies at each other (which would likely just pass through each other due to being almost completely empty space...not to mention they'd have to be moving several hundred thousand times the speed of light which is completely physically impossible) the writer already proved they had absolutely no respect or regard for the physical laws of space and time. So suddenly trying to respect the laws of causality after all that was kind of eye rolling.
But getting off topic... Here it didn't make sense either. It created a time paradox. If Ashi doesn't exist, she never creates the time portal. If she never creates the time portal, Jack and Ashi never go back to kill Aku. If they never kill Aku, Ashi exists again. If Ashi exists again, she creates the time portal. If she creates the time portal, Jack and Ashi go back and kill Aku. If they kill Aku, Ashi doesn't exist. If Ashi doesn't exist, she never creates the time portal, etc.
And, of course, there's everyone else who got erased from existence too. Butterfly effect over 10,000 year period.
I would have preferred if he stayed in the future, bottom line.

Yeah I feel incredibly indifferent of this, here's my interpretation of this paradox.
Ashi was erased from the paradox, but Jack's victory was not because of the fact that Jack didn't actually change from when he was sent forward "50 years have passed, yet I do not age". So, when he finally gets back to the past, he quite literally doesn't miss a beat and the battle concludes as if he never was sent to the future. The easiest way of thinking is to imagining a river that flows straightforward, which is time. When Jack is thrown into the future, it causes the river to bend sideways and off course. 50 years down the new stream, Ashi makes the new time portal and the bent river finally loops back to the original point, and the river flows straight forward again as if the loop never happened. However, because of this happening, the loop begins to dry out and fade away, just as the time line that was created fades along with Ashi. If anything the real question is how Jack can still possibly remember the timeline that has been erased, which could either be the real oversight in the time travel aspect, or an interesting indication that the future did in fact branch off, that other river still existing somewhere, or perhaps even that Ashi is somewhere "out there" whether something as strange and convoluted as one of the girls in the village, or waiting for Jack in the next or after life. Honestly, I would have liked either direction that the finale could have gone to, but for what it was, I'd say that it was pretty satisfying conclusion. And I can take comfort in the fact that the past, present, and future all have hope thanks to Jack and Ashi sacrificing everything for their world. And in a strange and yet wonderful way, that's really what the shows all about. The choices and sacrifices that we make determine who we are as people.
Thats just my interpertation on the subject though.
