Hey man, I was wondering if you've heard of this one Mecha anime. A person I know at work told me about it. It's personally not one I'd enjoy that much but I thought you might. It's definitely more Militaristic than most others too.
Have you heard of Blue Gender? Basically it's this Mecha anime about a guy named Yuji who comes down with a mysterious unknown disease, along with a few others who did too. Since they have no cure, these doctors put him and the others with the disease into stasis until one day a cure can be found. But things do not go according to plan, when some time while he's still dormant, the Earth comes under attack by a race of evolving giant insects called "The Blue."
The humans fight back using giant robots called Armor Shrikes, but soon they are outnumbered and the Earth becomes overrun by The Blue. Yuji is then prematurely awakened by a bunch of Armor Shrike pilots who are trying to evacuate the people with the disease to a space station for survivors, and he now must team up with them to get off the planet now swarming with The Blue.
Have you seen it yet? I think you might like it.

Yo, it's me again. Knowing how much you like Toei shows and Power Rangers, I just recently found out this thing that's mind blowing.
Well basically long before Power Rangers was even a thing, Toei made this Sentai version of Spiderman. Yes, the iconic Marvel hero, Spiderman! Though their's was more like what eventually would become Power Rangers.
Like in that one, Spidey was originally a motorcycle stuntman who gains his powers from a visitor from Planet Spider, and now must stop an evil genius and his Machine Bems. The Machine Bems also turn gigantic after their first defeat and then Spidey would face them in a Megazord-like robot called Leopardon.
This incarnation of Spiderman also had a brief cameo in the Spider-Verse comics too.
Is that crazy or what?!

Oh I've known about this for a while. In fact I would have much-preferred "SUPAIIDAAMAN" to be the japanese anime representation in the Spiderverse movie instead of the american-original SP//Der being heavily altered into a lolicon.

I actually liked Peni Parker, but I heard the Comic version of Spiderverse actually had "Supaiidaman" in it. I just found this an interesting tidbit of information that there was another adaptation of the iconic Web Slinger like that.

I hope you don't mind me posting more anime/manga recommendations, but I found one I bet you'd really like.
It's a manga only right now, and it's called Otome Kaiju Caramelize, and it's about a super cute and fluffy girl who changes into a gigantic Kaiju. I've been reading it and I love how they make a reptilian titan so cute. Almost like Robot Girls Z inΒ a way, but cuter. And no it's not just slice of life stuff, there's plenty other stuff to it.
I mean look at her! Look at how cuddly she is in her human form! -->Β Β 66.media.tumblr.com/4f6c1de214β¦
Also on another note, what did you think of the newest Godzilla movie? My one friend thinks it's getting the Pacific Rim Uprising treatment, was actually very good but others bash the heck out of it.

AgaiLazen In reply to Hexidextrous [2019-06-11 16:53:07 +0000 UTC]
Reading more Otome Kaiju, and the main kaiju is not only based off of Godzilla, it's based off of a specific Godzilla costume.

AgaiLazen In reply to Hexidextrous [2019-06-11 07:58:32 +0000 UTC]
For me, it was an instant classic. This movie canonized the western Godzilla for me, we had the return of not only the classic monsters but their classic themes as well. Not to mention it reached deep into the lore of the japanese films to bring back metric tons of easter eggs that make this film so rewarding to watch as a long-time fan. As for the bashing, I feel like all the "major complaints" the critics like Angry Joe and AVGN have are inflated nitpicks at best, and complete bullshit at worst. Just goes to show that you can still fail, even if you do everything perfectly.
I'll check out Caramelize. I'm reading Chapter 1 Right now and I immediately relate deeply to the main character. You have no idea how many times I've fantasized about turning into a kaiju and just killing everyone that wronged me.

Did you see Rooster Teeth started a new Mecha Series called GEN: Lock? What do you think of it?
π: 0 β©: 1
AgaiLazen In reply to Hexidextrous [2019-02-10 15:06:52 +0000 UTC]
First episode is kinda mediocre. Not amazing, not awful. Second episode is way better, showing off the individual skills of our main cast. Third episode is...okay. I feel that's how the whole series will be for me, unimpressive. I'm not sure it was worth breaking the bank for all of these big-name actors that we don't even see as the voice cast when RT already has a full voice cast. Especially for a CGI series. CG is fucking expensive and I feel like the show will run into the problem of not having enough assets because they spent all the money on Maisie Williams. Lots of videogames make the same mistake.
One question I have is how the hell the Gen:Lock program is supposed to stop the biggest enemy threat, the nanomachines. How is a giant robot supposed to stop a Grey Goo event? Considering all of the mech action we see in the intro, my question will remain unanswered.
π: 0 β©: 1
Hexidextrous In reply to AgaiLazen [2019-02-10 15:10:11 +0000 UTC]
I understand. I myself am on the fence about it. As for the Nanomachines thing, maybe they'll use the mechs to deploy an EMP attack on them or something?
Maybe you might like this Mecha series more? Starwing Paradox? I like it more because it has a lot of cute and moe' pilots. -->Β Β youtu.be/9Fok4DaJXmI

Starwing Paradox is a Japan-only arcade game. As such my interest in it is completely nil as I will NEVER lay my hands on it. While I can see why you like it, I feel the mech designs are too much in the opposite direction of Gen;Lock. While Gen;Lock has the problem of being exceedingly generic, Starwing has the problem of being so unique to the point of ugliness in my opinion.

I got another Mecha Anime you might wanna see. It was funded on Kickstarter too.
It's called Mecha-Ude. I think you might like it. Here's the Trailer. -->Β Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gLjAoβ¦
Basically, it appears to be about these Robot Arm things that bond with a human host, the main character Hikaru, being merged with one named Alma. And his life is turned upside-down by it and its needs, but it also helps him fight enemies after him, like this one guy who is trying to find out the secrets of these Robot Arms. Because he's not the only one that's become bound to one.
To me it looks like a cross between Gad Guard and Venom. What do you think of this? Not sure if I'd like it but maybe you might?

AgaiLazen In reply to Hexidextrous [2019-01-14 20:39:52 +0000 UTC]
Seems less like mecha and more like generic shounen. If nothing else, the animation is top-notch.

Hexidextrous In reply to AgaiLazen [2019-01-14 21:41:03 +0000 UTC]
Okay, well I just thought you might like it, because of some similarities to Gad Guard and such.
And BTW, I don't think Generic Shounen. Generic Shounen would be like them as burly superpowered Kung-Fu men beating the crap out of each other (I.E like DBZ, Fist of the North Star, Kinnikuman, Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, etc).

AgaiLazen In reply to Hexidextrous [2019-01-15 15:09:04 +0000 UTC]
Lemme put it this way; what I find offputting about this new show is that we've seen all of these characters before. We've seen the underdog hero with a ton of heart, we've seen the overconfident psychopath with a god complex as the hero's rival, we've seen the female love interest who has a completely inexplicable obsession with the protagonist, and it doesn't look like Mecha-Ude is going to do anything new or interesting with said archetypes. This is what I mean by "generic shounen" and it's the exact same reason I don't want to get into My Hero Academia, even if it has Godzilla in it.
I'm much more interested in the upcoming season of One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100, because they actually do something different with these archetypes and they do it in a way that makes them likeable as well as fun to watch. That and the animation is also superior. Look at that Zoetrope.

Hexidextrous In reply to AgaiLazen [2019-01-15 15:12:20 +0000 UTC]
I didn't like My Hero Academia more because it was too generic Superhero like, not shounen-like (I.E. All-Might is just another Superman-like figure, Froppy is another X-Men Toad-like figure), and the naming is really bad (seriously what kind of name is "The League of Villains").
Plus it reminds me too much of this movie called "Sky High" which I also disliked.
π: 0 β©: 1
AgaiLazen In reply to Hexidextrous [2019-01-16 05:14:38 +0000 UTC]
I actually really enjoyed Sky High. Though I'll also point out that MHA also takes a lot of tips from One Punch Man, which is another reason I can't get on the right foot with it. It will always be an OPM rip-off to me, what with the Hero Registry, Heroes being commonplace, the main character getting their powers by working themselves to the literal breaking point...
And again, MHA maintains all of the typical Shounen archetypes that I hate, but there's more of them that also do nothing new. And of course there are characters that simply shouldn't exist as protagonists, even if they're comic relief.

Speaking of Gratifying, check this game out. I think it looks like a spiritual successor to Zone of the Enders. It's called Daemon X Machina --> youtu.be/IB9WMa9sxFA

Actually they screwed up royal when it came to the Gundam's stats, not that it would have changed the fight.
Also, Daemon X Machina is more based off of Armored Core than Zone of the Enders. In fact it has much of the same team working on it, including the mech designer.
