Hey, happy whatever a "deviantart birthday" is. Presumably it's the anniversary of the day you joined DA? Well, anyway, whatever it is, enjoy it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeruathi In reply to irapandstuff [2010-12-04 10:02:30 +0000 UTC]

I think that's probably what it is. Thanks, haha.

I wonder if there's a way to turn off these things. Like I get annoyed about being notified of people's dA birthdays, or birthdays in general, especially if it's random people I devwatch and not people I've ever met.
Plus I'm like "oooh a comment/fav/watch?" oh. Nope. Somebody I devwatch joined dA today, some years ago. Ok.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

irapandstuff In reply to Aeruathi [2010-12-04 23:31:43 +0000 UTC]

I'd like that, actually, especially since it's sort of awkward when you don't know the person at all and you're not sure if you're supposed to congratulate them or what.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeruathi In reply to irapandstuff [2010-12-06 03:59:47 +0000 UTC]

Well if I don't know the person offline, I typically just delete the notification. And if its a dA birthday I tend to also ignore it. If it's somebody I do know offline, and it's their actual birthday, I hope to remember without a notification. That's one reason why I don't like how various websites send you reminders near people's birthday, because when I make someone a card/gift or just tell them happy birthday, it means more if they know I remembered it myself, and didn't just read the reminder. It's nice when friends remember such things, but when tons of random classmates from years ago are like "OMG HAPPY BIRTHDAY" then when friends say it I kinda feel like 'ok, whatever'

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

irapandstuff In reply to Aeruathi [2010-12-06 04:13:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I agree with that. I remember all my close friends birthdays without a Facebook notification, and I usually try not to say things to people on Facebook unless I know I won't see them soon enough to tell them in real life.

By the way, I have music that may interest you. Do you know The Ides of March?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeruathi In reply to irapandstuff [2010-12-08 02:58:45 +0000 UTC]

I tend to remember, but I'd feel worse if I only remembered because of Facebook than if something happened like a friend saying "guess what day it is?!" and me standing there confused.

I only really use the site to find out homework when I miss a class, and to contact people who check it more than their email. With more and more security problems coming up all the time, I try and avoid it as much as possible.

I do not know them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

irapandstuff In reply to Aeruathi [2010-12-10 05:43:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that would be bad. I agree with most of what you're saying, although my facebook also gets used a lot to showcase whatever music I'm listening to lately.

1970's jazz/rock thing. I enjoyed it. [link]

Aeruathi In reply to irapandstuff [2010-12-14 08:28:06 +0000 UTC]

I only meant that I personally don't find facebook that useful/worth going on often, but not as an opinion of the site itself. Other people have reasons why the site is useful to them, thus use it more often. Like someone who doesn't make art or like art would probably find dA pretty pointless, but would understand that it's probably pretty interesting if you do like art.

I'll check that out.

Aeruathi In reply to LaughingAstarael [2010-11-21 09:00:42 +0000 UTC]

Hey thar.
...I would have commented, but I was like -omg.epicwin.+fave- and then suddenly found myself waking up at a ridiculously late/early hour with my arm on the keyboard and my face on a textbook and my feet on my pillow. Which meant it was time to shove everything off my bed (except the laptop, I manage to be awake enough to gently place it on the floor) and go to sleep properly. Hehe.
(I have class twice a week, once at the high school's Independent Study campus, and saturday mornings at the local community college. Which means if I fall asleep at a crazy hour I can just wake up at like noon or something and thus get enough sleep...because my IS class is at 4pm, and on saturday I'll often go back to sleep when I get home. And all other days I'm home all day so as long as I spend a decent number of consecutive hours asleep... the timing doesn't matter. 10pm-6am? 11pm-8am? 3am-noon? 5am-2pm? It's all good. XD)
And I shall stop rambling now, because speaking of sleep, I'm going to go do that now. My Eng 1A in class essay midterm thing was this...errr, yesterday... morning so I'm just ever so slightly braindead and babble-y. Wheeee...college!
Actually I'm sorta excited that I'll be taking classes there full time next semester. OMG. No big long apps to write and send, and I'm already enrolled in the system so I don't think I even need an application for next semester. I'll do the SAT this year for when I transfer to...somewhere, no idea where right now... in two years, but technically could wait a year or so if I wanted to. No app essays. Cheaper (understatement). Live at home- oh wait that's not the good part. But at least it's free and comes with food and internet!

More rambling. No. I should sleep now. -tries to pressure self to click send-

How about you?

Thanks! Actually technically I already have, since the couple most recent things are about six months old, and everything else is between one and four years old. I've been drawing/painting/etc, I simply haven't scanned anything in the past year... >.<

So my drawing 'style' I guess would now be rather different. Hopefully in the way that means I've improved at perspective/proportions/color/etc. But I need to scan things before anyone will be able to let me know. -mutters about procrastination-

This is extremely late, as I tend to forget things so easily (to the level of ridiculousness, sorry about that.)
But I just wanted to let you know the comments you had for my piece [link] are still stuck in my mind to this day. And that's saying something for a brain like mine. What you said, in all your replies to various comments on the piece elsewhere as well (I read them all) were deep, profound and really caused me to see things in my own work I had not before. This piece literally means so much more to me now because of what you said.
So I'm just here to say thank you, a really late, but very true thank you. Also, I don't know how often you frequent deviantart, but I'd love to just sit down and pick your brain sometime

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeruathi In reply to shley77 [2010-07-19 00:12:41 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry, I can relate to that... I'm also rather forgetful of anything and tend to be late on replies to people.
-goes to reread comments-

I thank you, as well. It makes me happy that what I said had meaning to you, especially since on this site it seems that the whole concept of giving artists real feedback on their art is totally lost. So it's awesome that the 'art piece gets made'>'feedback given to artist'>'feedback is useful to artist' process actually happens sometimes.
I tend to type a lot, be it in emails or comments or whatever, and often go on and on and end up getting ignored by people because they think that I really don't need to talk so much with so much explanation/detail/etc to get whatever point across.
When I saw your piece, it was so intense to me, that I'd really wanted to comment on it and express that, even though the subject matter was much more personal than what I'd usually put into a public comment. So what you're telling me also makes me glad because, well, probably similar to how my comments were to you. People make art or give feedback and put it out there, and often both just get ignored by people who just give a quick +fave or "cool piece!" and move on or artists who skim through comments but don't really read them. You made art, the art affected me and I gave feedback, you read the feedback and it affected you. So I think that's rather cool that it worked that way.
I'm repeating myself in different ways, I think, so I hope I'm making sense.

Having my brain picked sounds fun, actually. XD
Feel free to note me whenever, and if you'd like I can give you my email. I tend to check that a little more often than dA, though probably still not as often as I should.

As soon as my mother figures out how to make the camera work. It's having issues and sucks new batteries dead in like... anywhere from half an hour to two hours. Usually closer to 40 min or so. And then if it dies then we need new batteries before getting anything onto the computer. >.<
Fail camera is made of FAIL.

Yeah. It's kinda surreal though. Because if I can do that, then I don't even have to worry about nosediving GPA since when I transfer they'll care more about my grades of those two years before I transfer than my high school grades. It's weird. But in a good way.

I HAVE. Lots of mint tea with honey. <3 Also drinking lots of chicken broth. Which is better than it sounds.
Actually, what's really strange is that I have a much better appetite than I usually do. Super sick = hungry all the time? What. But that's a good thing since I'm underweight and need to be eating more. I've been eating anything that agrees with my throat. So not spicy, crunchy or overly-salted? OMNOMnomnomnom.

OOOOH PAINTS! (I haven't gotten said package yet so I don't know what colors it has, but I'm sure they'll be EPIC WIN.) Which makes me more eager to photograph the painting I did specifically to test the first box 'o paints. Well actually it started as simply color-testing and turned into a painting.

Whenever I end up being ready to mail, I'll note you for the address of wherever you are at that time. Since I'm not sure when it is that I'll have The Box ready.

Yesss tea with honey is great for that.
-mumbles- I'm...93lbs weighed fully dressed, and I'm 5'1". >.< BAAAD. I know. I'm not happy about that at all. -goes to make sandwich-
Somebody left (at my house) one of those free magazines they have at supermarkets about random things and this one is about cheese. With the special article-of-the-issue about grilled cheese but posh fancy gourmet grilled cheese. And cheese is good. And so are sandwiches. So I've been making Spiffy Grilled Cheese sandwiches because it's kinda fun. Brie + olives + spicy chicken + bread + butter + cast iron pan + stove + spatula = TASTY spiffy posh sandwich. Yay.
Did I make you want one? I probably just made you want a sandwich, didn't I? XD

I DID GET THE PAINTS! AND THEY'RE SUPER EPIC AWESOME!!! And useful colors and such too. And the box meant no stabby-paints that explode over my lap. The post office really needs to keep watch on whoever is trying to assassinate packages of paints...

-sneaks back to freezer for ice cream-
Only bonus (unbonuses including finding surfaces uncomfortable to sit on after a shorter amount of time due to lack of "padding") of being underweight: I don't feel the least bit bad about causing the family to run out of ice cream more often than we used to. There's five of us, right my dad buys two half-gallons a week (one chocolate one vanilla), and I probably go through the equivalent of one of those. >.< But for now I'm guilt-free. Sugar? What sugar? MOAR. Jase needs more padding so he can sit down more comfortably.

Ok directions that you most likely already know but here they are anyway:
Butter the bread slices on the sides that will face outward. Flip one over and put cheese on it. Put fillings in, in my case chicken and olives. Put more cheese on it. Put the other slice, butter side up, on top. Heat skillet on stove at medium-low heat. Put sandwich in skillet. After a short-ish while, use spatula to see if bread has toasted and is all golden or brown or whatever color the bread you're using gets when toasted. If so, flip sandwich. Press spatula flat on top of the sandwich and smush it down, if spatula is smaller than bread then do this more times for smushing of all areas of sandwich. Flip sandwich again to check that other side is toasted. If yes, transfer sandwich to plate, cut, eat. OMNONNOM.

Imma go make a sandwich now because typing that made me want one. omgYES-sandwhichYAY.

I haven't taken my ADD med for about a week, can you tell? (it got super low and the office hasn't called back and they need to mail a thing before I can get sent more. meh.)

Aeruathi In reply to LaughingAstarael [2010-07-20 01:43:00 +0000 UTC]

So go get some! Or make some! We get ours from a bakery that's literally two blocks away. It's owned by people who run it as a co-op and seems to be vegan anarchists. It's pretty cool. They have the best hamantaschen in the spring and make them for a full month since people love them. Their chalkboard of stuff has little markings telling you if the pastry is vegan, gluten-free, or has various kinds of nuts. And they actually have some rather good vegan brownies, muffins, and chocolate mousse torte. A friend and I were in there in the evening and when it hit closing and we were sitting on the couch drinking coffee they told us we could stay for another couple hours if we want, as they went downstairs for their band practice.
<3 musical Jewish vegan anarchist bakers.

Aeruathi In reply to LaughingAstarael [2010-07-20 04:00:47 +0000 UTC]

It's not a Jewish bakery, it's a bakery that happens to also have Jewish stuff. And for High Holy Days they make challah in the swirly shape, and you can get it with "jimmi" sprinkles (colors or chocolate), choc chips, and/or raisins. As well as loaves of apple-honey bread-cake-stuff.

It is. I <3 them. $2-$2.75 and I have an awesome breakfast that's directly on my way to the bus stop. They open right at the time I pass by when I had morning bio lab, so if I'm running late and can't eat breakfast I can stop in and get fresh hot pastry.
