As a shark freak, I really love your shark series! I love hammerheads. They're my favourite type, I once had a cute plushie of one from Sealife but I don't know where it is. ;_;
Can't beat the Great White though, in terms of tank. xD

I didn't know you were a shark freak too! What a great surprise!
Yeah, hammerheads are cool, though when I was a kid I prefered the threshers (those with a very long tail) and whale sharks. I have a lot of shark plushies in my room (including a hammerhead), the biggest comes from... IKEA! I'm not kidding! xD
Great whites show a beautiful mix of strength and elegance, it was really interesting to render that on a drawing. At least, when you look at the real animal, not its Hollywood depiction.

... Totally going to IKEA now byeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Lemon sharks are so cute. o3o
Seriously though, I don't like, yet I understand, how people can be so hateful towards sharks. They're on the receiving end of so much stigma, and I don't really blame movies like JAWS, Open Water or Deep Blue Sea completely, because obviously we've had attacks in the past. In fact, Open Water is briefly referenced from a true story, but they only know so much, of course.
The truth is that most shark attacks are misunderstandings. Great Whites tend to mistake people in dark swimming gear for seals, and they have a little nom then lose interest, usually. But by then the damage is done, so it's really hard to have a balanced view.
It's one of my dreams to swim with sharks. At least, cage dive. I can't actually swim, you see, so perhaps a cage diving session is more practical for me. Still, I would love to see that.

Some of my friends are also afraid of sharks, and this since they were kids. At that age, I was fascinated by their shapes, their singularity among sea creatures. I tried to explain to these people that sharks are just animals like any other. I succeeded with some, not with others. It's pretty much like wolves : some see them as devilish creatures, and even with the most eloquent arguments, you cannot change their minds, because some fears are deeply rooted since a very long time. One interesting thing about JAWS is that the scriptwriter didn't foresee the wave of hatred toward sharks (and especially great whites) the movie would generate. Since then, he became a shark defender.
Sharks don't feed on humans, we're not fat enough for them. But yeah, once the shark realized its error, it's already too late. Something I don't understand though, is why so many sharks are still being fished and finned (approx. 100 millions per year!) because some believe "their fins have aphrodisiac properties", when science proved there is nothing aphrodisiac in them. And finning is just shameful, cutting one shark's fins then dropping it in the ocean to a certain death...
I'd love to swin with sharks too. To see these beautiful creatures, face to face, not behind a glass. What a dream!

Sharks have a beauty that I think can easily be confused with fear. And baby sharks are so cute. :333
That's so touching about the scriptwriter, I'm happy that he realised the damage that was done to the reputation of sharks. Does he run a charity or anything? You know, the only times I wish I were rich is so I can donate money to animal causes. xD
The shark finning culture is deep-rooted, just like the fear, as you said. People like it, they eat it and it's sometimes the main part of their diet. It's wrong in our eyes, especially since it's endangering species, but to be honest it's the same with tuna. Last time I heard, they were also endangered. I love tuna, it's something I love cooking with, but since hearing about this I haven't had tuna in a few months. I'm not too bothered if I eat it again or not, but I guess some other people rely on things like shark-fin soup too much for not just their diet, but for business and tourist industry. It's really the true nature of industrial selfishness. I once saw a video of a shark that had its fins cut off, and it just flailed around in the sea until it bled out, and I was crying with shock.

Uh, ok, no problem. But I didn't try to submit any deviation to your group (I didn't even know about it until now). Was any of my SF-related work suggested by another person to your group? Because I'm a bit confused.
