Yeah well, Warhammer 40k is to massive to get firm grip on everything. There are some pretty awesome books out there that you can read. And by some I mean nearly a billion. Also, the coolest thing about Warhammer 40k is the Space Marines!

AFK-man In reply to Mulunia [2015-09-24 18:34:50 +0000 UTC]
Well, alright then. But fasten your Warp traversing belts my man, and load your bolter, because it will be very long description. You may also want to get some popcorn too.
Starting with a basic overview, the Warhammer 40k universe/franchise is set in the Milky Way Galaxy, in the 41st Millennium (or the year 40,000) and is quite dark. Warhammer 40k is also the futuristic Science-Fantasy edition of "Warhammer", which I have less interest in. In the universe, you have multiple different races. The humans are the most obvious, followed by the Eldar, which is equivalent of Elves in this (trust me, they're way cooler), the Orks and Gretchin, which are Orks and Goblins (respectively), Necrons, which are immortal, undead METAL Skeletons with guns that vaporize everything, the Tau, which could be considered the Dwarves of this and the "only" good guys, Daemons from this alternate dimension called the Warp (which is used for Faster Than Light travel), and then you've got the Tyrannids, some kind of alien race from another Galaxy that consumes everything in their paths and waste NOTHING. Oh, and everything is biological. Basically, every race hates each other (unless you're in the Tau empire), War is constantly going on, you have people connected to the Warp in a way so that they can use psychic powers, and mostly everything is religion based. Now then, onto the factions.
In the last Paragraph, I just named the races and some of the factions in WH40K, but don't let that make you think I'm finished there. Because in the Factions, they have sub-factions, and boy are there a lot of them! Starting with the human faction, this empire is called the Imperium, of all things Imperial. Their leader and God is the Emperor of Mankind, who is, right now, essentially a rotting skeleton on the Golden throne of Earth, AKA Holy Terra. The Emperor was a being of immense power (psychic power, mind you), that is Immortal! The Emperor was born in a place called central Anatolia, nowadays known as Turkey to mortal parents, as well as having mortal brothers and sisters. Basically, as he grew up, he learned of what he was and that he was the only one of his kind. So, he decided to help his people in any way he could, and by doing this he appeared as several religious figures throughout history, like Jesus or Muhammad. As the years went on, the Emperor (he wasn't always called that though) stayed in the shadows and helped humanity from them. Now when humanity mastered space travel and started a Golden Age of technology, they prospered in the stars! Unfortunately, it didn't last. Humanity became at war with itself again and caused major technological loss. However, the Emperor found this the perfect opportunity to reclaim humanity under one rule and conquer the stars from the foul Xenos. So, what he did was create genetically altered super soldiers called..... the Thunder Warriors! And with them he reconquered Earth, the Solar system and set sail through the Warp to reclaim the lost worlds of humanity. However, back on Earth before he left, the Emperor created these super awesome, Demi-God like, super Warriors to fight in his crusade and they had their own more amazingly awesome Primarchs that were even better than them. The super warriors are called the Adeptus Astartes, or for those who don't know Latin (High-Gothic in Warhammer 40K) are also called Space Marines! However, the four Gods of Chaos, Khorn the Blood God, Tzeentch the Changer of Ways, Nurgle the Plague Lord and Slaanesh the Prince of Pleasure, weren't into that sort of thing and scattered the few Primarchs across the Galaxy to rule Planets on their own whilst waiting for the Emperor to save them. When the Emperor passed through on his route of conquering, he picked up his Primarchs and continued on his way. After some time, the Emperor decided there was better things to do then Galaxy plundering and skipped back to Earth to fiddle with Genetics and other boring whatnot, leaving his favourite Primarch, and considered son, Horus in command of the cursade, without telling him why he left because he didn't trust him enough. However, the Chaos tainted Chaplain (I still don't know how that happened) got tricked Horus into siding with Chaos and wage war against his own Father, getting half of all the Space Marine Legions to side with him. While suffering from pretty serious Daddy issues, Horus attacked Terra, and with the Emperors own forces heavily outnumbered, the Emperor teleported to Hours's flagship to face him in mortal combat. However, being a sentimental old sod, he could not bring himself to kill favourite son. Horus having no such qualms, beat the snot out of him. The Emperor eventually triumphed over Horus and killed him with mind bullets. Being mortally wounded in the Battle though, the Emperor, on the verge of death, asked his second favourite son, Rogal Dorn, to plug him into the Golden Throne, a relic from the dark age of technology that keeps the Emperor's conscience alive in exchange for the sacrifice of a thousand unlucky souls (sods) every day. In the Imperium, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance over his race by guiding ships through the Warp with the Astronomicon, a device made from the Emperors psychic powers. Because of the cripplement of their God, the Imperium fell into a state of technological stagnation and you could get killed as a heretic for any number of reasons. There are those in the Imperium that serve the Emperor like the Imperial Guard, the general Military force of the Imperium, which is so vast and large it will amaze you. The there's the Adeptus Mechanicus, or the Priesthood of Mars, the Tech Priests, or just the mechanical stuff fanatics. I won't go into much detail with them. Then there's the Emperor's Holy Inquisition, which is split into three different sections. The Ordo Maellus, for dealing with Daemons, the Ordo Hereticus, for dealing with Heretics and the Odro Xenos, for dealing with Aliens! And of course, the best till last, we have the Space Marines! Genetically engineered to be the almost perfect super soldier, these Angels of Death are the true Super Soldiers of the battlefield. With guns that shoot explosive bullets and armour that can protect them from anything, any argument becomes invalid! So here you are sir..... or madam. The Imperium. Welcome to the world of Warhammer 40k.
So, yeah, this is really what's off the top of my head and I'm kind of tired now. It took me like nearly, 2 hours to write this because half of it got deleted for some reason. Anyway, I'll have the next order of business ready by Saturday, so be ready. In the meantime, see ya.

Holy shoot, that's intense! I think you explained this quite well so far, so thank you!
In all honesty, though,Β if I were the emperor I wouldn't sacrifice one thousand people a day just to keep my consciousness alive.

AFK-man In reply to Mulunia [2015-09-26 15:47:59 +0000 UTC]
No, it's the Golden Throne that uses the power of the psykers that are sacrificed to the Emperor that keeps him alive. Sorry that I forgot to mention that. There's basically a prophecy that includes the Emperor coming back somehow, but we have yet to see it. Also, slight change of plans but the next description will coming on Monday, I've just don't have a lot of time at the moment.

Right! I'm here.... finally. Now then, here's the Eldar, the elves of this massive universe. So where to begin... ah yes!
Back in the day, say when humanity was young and getting to grips with space travel, the Eldar were a prosperous race and they had nice easy lives while the rest of the Galaxy was fucking itself up. The average Eldar specimen looks like a Human, but more taller and spindly and they're either beautiful or eeeevil looking, depending on what faction they're a part of, with almond shaped eyes, pointy lobe-less ears and narrow heads. So when these mofos were still being lazy and all that crap, these preachers of another God (not the Emperor mind you) and many flocked to them! The preachers came and preached about a God of pleasure and happiness and it would only happen if the Eldar worshiped them. So, what did the Eldar do? Exactly the opposite of what any sane person would do and began to worship that new "God". And so begins the greatest drug usage ever conceived by any race ever! They took massive amounts of drugs to cause global warming to occur on our planet 15 times! And that ceased production and is also when..... the orgies began. Yes it's true. It happened. Xenos are dumb. And so, several weeks of that, or maybe years (I can't tell), cause the downfall of their once great race. And when the day came, one of the four Gods of Chaos, now know as Slaanesh, came and sucked up all the poor souls of the aliens, with them screaming in horror, then in.... ecstasy. But before then, people saw what would happen and left their planets on these massive ships called Planet ships? I can't remember what they were called but it's something like that. And that's also how the Chaos God Slaanesh became the newest member of the Chaos Gods book club. And also how the Eldar race is dying out and how it split it up into two different factions.
First order of business, we have the Eldar. Now these mofos are the regular very annoying bunch of idiots who hate any other race in the Galaxy. Not much to say about them because I don't care much for them. Now onto the next order of business.
As for the Dark Eldar, however, these guys are much more interesting, yet very hate-able. You see, what makes them different from regular Eldar is that they feast on other people. Not their flesh or blood mind you. They feast on their pain, and torture and screams of agony and all that jazz. And by doing this, they get to live forever, or for as long as they can without feasting. So quite frankly, if you saw first hand what they did, you'd wish you could die if they got their hands on you. Seriously, the methods of torture they know of and utilize freely, without knowing of the Geneva convention, are very disturbing. I mean, very disturbing. Also, if you got stabbed by one of their blades, you would die of poisoning. So yeah.Β
And that concludes today's session. Next we'll be talking about the... ORKS!!! WAAAGHHH!!!! (Ork speak, just so you know). So yeah, it'll be here by Saturday (hopefully). See ya then.Β

Wow! That sounds so intense! So the Eldar start worshiping a God that came from nowhere, cause multiple cases of global warming on Earth, start dying out, and split into two different kinds of people. I don't know which side I'd choose!
Anywho, I'm excited to see what the Orks are like!
π: 0 β©: 1
AFK-man In reply to Mulunia [2015-10-01 17:11:31 +0000 UTC]
No, the Eldar smoke so much drugs that it can cause global warming to occur on our planet several times. Also, there are more different kinds of Eldar, those two are the more prominent ones.

AFK-man In reply to Mulunia [2015-10-18 11:13:41 +0000 UTC]
Exactly. Now then the Orks.
Right, so what you need to know is that they're humanoid in shape, about several heads taller than an average human, green skinned, and very burly. They're the most aggressive of all the races and revel in violence. Their tech is functional but isn't exactly very high on any tech tree. They can get their way around the galaxy though, so yeah.

Mulunia In reply to AFK-man [2015-10-18 13:55:20 +0000 UTC]
Sounds pretty basic. I'm guessing that they're just a sci-fi version of normal orcs?

AFK-man In reply to Mulunia [2015-10-21 20:55:05 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, in essence. Sorry it wasn't longer, I have very little time nowadays. But yes, they are the sci-fi equivalent to "normal" orks. What the best about them is how makeshift and comedic they can be. I mean, they're tech i really just making the impossible possible through improbable means, such as strapping a rocket to the back of an ork. And they also very funny British accents.

I can't remember if I already asked you this, but does Warhammer 40K have any franchising based off of their books? Like video games, board games, cereal for children...

AFK-man In reply to Mulunia [2015-10-26 19:10:30 +0000 UTC]
First of all, Warhammer 40k started out life as a strategy sort board game. Then, it started to branch out, like in books and also video games. The video game so far is Warhammer 40k Space Marine. It's great to introduce you to the franchise. Oh, there's also a movie but it isn't that good. Also, a guy on the internet is making a movie about Warhammer 40k that seems really promising.
