Hey, yeah it was nice mwo could use more of that sort of banter, haha.
Hope to see you around, glad the (old, embarassing) dA handle didn't send you astray!
I tend to use twitter (@1bardesign) a lot more than this if you'd like to be in touch, haha, but will follow/respond/whatever.

You still doing Cortex Command modding? Because I've got a few dozen ideas on improving that lift mod, i co-created.

Haha, not at all at the moment, making games professionally now. I do commission art from time to time, what were you thinking of?

And Game Creation, Huh. I'm still doing a course so i can attempt that I've already done a generous amount of paper work getting things ready.
But i know for a fact the things i want to do with C++ are possible friend and myself tested this early in 2011.

We're using a custom C++ engine at the moment, it's a nice language but has a tendency to get tangled easily
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SimsDoc In reply to 1bardesign [2013-02-12 15:38:10 +0000 UTC]
Well, you could switch to java base engine depending on development stage because java is basically just CC++ but with simplification

1bardesign In reply to SimsDoc [2013-02-17 12:31:38 +0000 UTC]
Lol, 2 years in I dont think so. Java performance is also significantly slower than native code, and has a horrific tendency to want you to deal with exceptions at every second function call. I've made frameworks for games in java before, and done a fair bit of programming in it for university, but it's not my preferred language.
I don't dislike it, but I prefer C++.

Well, to be honest i got offer a job in java programming before i got into University. Its only now that I'm expanding my knowledge in other areas of programming.
And i do hope someday to use my knowledge in C++ or at the very best Java to create something that is more or less without limits.

Base automation in CC would be great, would require a fair bit of work on an art and code side though.

Well, Considering everyone on the forums tells me its impossible it makes me feel unnerving know that's there is a break in the opinion of what can and cannot be done.

A lot of people on the forums are inexperienced or have moved on tbh. The collisions between moving objects would be an issue, but you could fake it easily enough, and use doors for moving platforms etc (which collide more safely because they place material behind themselves as they move). You'll start hitting a MOID limit if you spam them, but you shouldn't need to spam them. If something doesn't require moving collisions, you could have the object only exist for one frame, to add data to some global table for a management script to work on.

Made it up when I was 12 or so, used it since, found out it's the name of "The Universe" in one of the oldest religions, Zoroastrianism, so I kinda stuck with it because it makes for an interesting story, even if it does leave people wondering if I think I'm just that good.

Hey man, you were a real inspiration on getting back to pixel art. This weekend we had Global Game Jam here, and I participated with a pixel art game - although running on a 3d engine.. It's a 2d game...
Anyway, keep up with your work - and if you want to play, my profile has a featured deviation with the game link (runs on browser) and info.

Hey, good to hear it! Game jams are just generally excellent things to do and I'm glad to hear you got something finished for GGJ - those deadlines always seem to come faster than expected.
I'll be sure to keep it up, and I'll have a look at Cohesion - can't promise I'll get back to you with detailed feedback but i'll sure as anything give it a whirl and hopefully have some fun

Hey, I'm curious, about the games you have draw to, have you also programmed them? Which language/framework/tool you recommend for beginners and which do you use?
Thanks!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
1bardesign In reply to doomiest [2012-02-02 13:51:36 +0000 UTC]
Almost all of them, yes. When working alone I usually use Flex/Flash and the Flixel framework (compiling with mxmlc only and writing code using Geany, usually). As something for beginners you could use the LOVE framework which uses Lua for scripting so you don't have to worry about object orientation.
I'd recommend doing some solo game jams like ludumdare to jump-start your development by getting amidst a group of people willing to help out and driven to make fun things
Good luck!

Did you create the graphics for Cortex Command? (Or is your style just kinda similar?)

1bardesign In reply to API-Beast [2012-01-01 21:46:37 +0000 UTC]
No, that was Arne Niklas Jansson (check out androidarts.com for more of his work). My style is kinda similar as he's one of my influences, though I did create some Cortex Command mods a few years back which you may have seen around DRLFF.
Thanks for the compliment though
