Hey there! I've notice you haven't been active for nearly a year. I hope everything is ok! I also was wondering about the Nerdy Crafts Group. Are you still running it? If you need help or anything I wouldn't mind being a co-admin or just someone who could be in charge of approving submissions if you don't have much time for it. There are lots of new members who want to submit their work, and more who have left the site because they can't get their stuff submitted, which is really sad because Nerdy Crafts is really the only group out there like it. The one closest to being like it has narrowed their allowed submission types.
Anyway, I hope you are doing well and everything is going ok for you! Lemme know if you need help with the group or anything! <3

Hi girl,
Meet you this weekend in MegaCon, bought the Joker for my son, and he loves it. Please let me know when you have other ones of the batman series so I could get them.
thanks
Cris

first glance at your dolls tells me I'm doing it wrong.
I haven't finished any of my fanart dolls yet and I found out why: I want them to be too detailed for their size... your approach looks so much easier.
(but now I really should work on mine again. maybe I'll manage my amount of detail anyway. )

How big are you trying to do them? Mine are about 6 inches. The beauty of creating the dolls is, you don't have to make them perfect. I feel like when you create the dolls it has a lot to do with the characters. I try and stick with characters that are unique, if I said "Harry Potter" you could close your eyes and invision him. Some characters are hard like I did the Edward from Twilight and to me he could be anyone.
If you want any help I would love to help you. I have only done about 30 of these dolls so I consider my skills a work in progress but I can certainly give you any tips that I think might help you.

I'm doing them roughly after the pattern of [link] though I want to change the arms and need to figure out how to sew on jackets (the clothes are crocheted too) and how to do the hair. it's mostly the jacket and the arms that give me trouble.
(and my dolls are much smaller, because I use thinner yarn and work with a 2.5mm hook )

I use felt for my clothes and sometimes fabric from the fabric stores. I find that felt is more forgiving when you are making clothes.
As for the arms are you having trouble with the fingers? If you are look up a tutorial on youtube for how to crochet sackboy. He has the same hands so maybe if you see someone do it, it will help you. It took me weeks of practice before I could even crochet a simple ball shape. Youtube is my bestfriend when it comes to crocheting.
I like using Lion Brand Vanna's Choice and I use a 3.5 hook

whoa, there are actually tutorials for the sackboys (hadn't known that's what they were called)? I've been wondering how to do those already (the open mouth mostly).
it's not really about the fingers, though. I have a way to make them realistic enough for their size.
my trouble is that I crochet the doll head to toe in one go, changing colors from skin to shirt to pants to shoes. that's without the arms. then I make the jacket, also without the arms. I crochet the arms separately and I thought about making them in the jacket color right away. what I haven't figured out yet is how to sew on the jacket tightly enough that when I sew the arms to the jacket, they won't accidentally come off with the jacket, or just hang too loose with the jacket.
if I knew how to get the layered clothes look without having to crochet the jacket separately, that'd help already. but seeing how I might want to have a doll or two with open jackets or long coats, that might just not be possible.

Have you tried making clothes seperate and then sewing it on with clear thread? I use the clear thread a lot of the times. Clear thread is a lot more durable then colored thread. Clear thread is like plastic string so you can pull it really tight without it snapping.

never tried that before. normally I just use the same yarn I crochet with. the clear thread I have might be a bit to thick for sewing. will have to look into this.
thanks for the suggestion.

If you go to your local art store and ask for polymer clay they will point you in the right direction. As far as tools I don't really use but maybe one to help me blend my limbs a little.
You should try. Go to youtube they have pretty fun videos. When I started I googled imaged a lot of things people had done and practiced with really easy stuff like making food and such. They even have tutorials here on deviant.

Pretty much everything is $10. I did a little exploring on your page. I think I have something you would enjoy.
I made these out of clay and then painted them. I have one around the house that is gothic or dark if you will. She is black with red and has a little hat on. I will try find her. I will probably post of my little girls later. I have spent way to much time on this website today. Ha. I am glad someone loves the Wuffles.
