Description
Inspired by the Italian Renaissance, this is Venice-like city featuring a rudimentary "hydro-arcane power" - useful magic generated by the kinetic energy of the surrounding waterfalls. This, in addition to its strategic trading location, has made the city very wealthy.The main building in this scene sports a marketplace, where citizens can purchase luxury goods with prices unaffected by tariffs. (This is due to a legal loophole, whereas the building is considered an island not directly part of the main city.)
Small cargo and bus-like boats are pulled along elevated waterways, and denizens could easily spend most of their time on the city's rooftops.
I also will be sending this to Wizards of the Coast with the intention of getting MTG card work, preferably land cards! If it were a card, it would be a blue/white land card with the ability to convert an island card into ANY two lands when tapped. Either that, or a commerce ability that allows the owner to "buy" a player's opposing artifacts, paid by discarding a land or two.

Also, I think the commerce ability sounds really interesting, though depending on the artifact I might want it to be pricier.

Thanks. I was thinking about something to fit the theme of the image. I do know how to play MTG and have a few duel decks, but I know admittedly little about good deck building/game balancing. And thanks for the encouragement. I think I will be doing some card art in the near-ish future, but don't have any details yet.

Now THIS is what I think of when I imagine a hydro-arcane community. Massive water reserves, utilization & the power to make waves for their community. Quite literally.

Thanks. While I prefer designing sci-fi, I enjoy fantasy where magic has consistent rules. Treating it as another form of energy next to thermal, electrical, kinetic, gravitational... is a lot of fun. I don't like systems where people seem to be able to pull it from thin air at no cost. Feels cheap.

It was sort of a back burner piece. I didn't keep track of the time since I tended to just work on it an hour here or there between other work. I estimate it was about 30 hours though. Next thing I do like this I'll try to tally it.

To the first ability to have islands generate double mana: basically a Mirari's Wake for islands, then? And since it's for one land type, it'd likely be capping out at four mana (then again, since it's blue, and you hate to give blue more mana, maybe not), but in any case, I feel it'd be a case of "if I untap with this, you scoop". Buying artifacts? That'd make it go to the junk pile fairly quickly.
In any case, absolutely phenomenal picture. Going to look through the rest of your gallery now. Huge congrats on your DD.

Heh, I was wondering if someone was going to offer suggestions about what it could do. While I know how to play MTG, I only own a couple decks and haven't built my own. So I don't have the context to really think up a balanced ability.
I was looking for an ability that would fit the image, and since this is a market, artifact buying made sense. It does seem like artifacts tend to be underpowered, though!
