Taken from Takm's forward swept wing VF-25, I cobbled together a couple of VX-29 test fighters flying by Ren's Macross Quarter.For those who are unaware, the second Macross Frontier movie features a forward swept winged YF-29 prototype fighter..
The VX-29 is the early test version of the fighter

Actually the YF-29 was specifically designed to fight the Vajra (I can never spell their name right.) There are fold quartz crystals in different locations, (harvested from various dead Vajra), on the ship to help it in numerous ways. The 19 is still a great fighter and is still in use by various units.

Probably because it was dated and the technology was less effective than the current generation of fighters.
It would be like wondering why the Navy doesn't keep using the F-14 because it can do a similar role as the F-18.There is nothing wrong with the Tomcat, but the F-18 has far more advanced gear, making it more effective in a modern combat role.

If they were going to do use the forward swept wings anyway why just use the VF-19?
