This drawing started as a representation of my new direction in life. I recently started school to become an animal caretaker (zookeeper). I've always loved animals and I have been thinking about changing careers for a couple of years now.It's been hard going back to school again and learning. I've been working as an independent artists for so many years now and am so used to being my own boss. I love school though, it's really really great. A lot of the classes are very interesting and I enjoy all the new information.
The drawing is partly letting go of some of the things I have inside, some of the darker things I've been through, changing my life, hopefully for the better. Even if I decide to go back to art full time, going back to school has been a positive change for me. I try to put in some drawing in the weekends and whenever I have some extra time in the evenings though homework is taking most of my free time.
Finally this drawing is an entry to the wonderful Jessica contest.
I am glad to finally enter one of her contests as her stock has been a great inspiration for me for many years now. She does an amazing job with her stock.
Edit: Unfortunately I was half a day too late with my entry. However, I still loved drawing this. Oh well

This is such a magnicent piece that has so much personal meaning to it. There is so much attention to detail on the bird it's incredible. I wish you the best of luck with your new career and am slightly jealous. My second love in life after art is animals also and the zoo is one of my favorite places to be. She is indeed. Lots of work went into it but it was interesting. Always fun to try subjects you haven't done so often.

Hey Zindy, Would you mind telling me where you go to school to learn to become a zookeeper. This is something that my daughter, a junior in college, is thinking about, and I really didn't think there was such a thing.

Look at this way, a new career in animal welfare will provide a whole host of new subject matter. Keep drawing - if only for pleasure - you really have something here! A break from the commercial pressures of art production may just be what you need!

Indeed yes. It's been a wonder experience so far and I really love it. I miss drawing as much as I used to but I think I actually appreciate drawing a little more now that my time is limited.
It is indeed a pressure when you draw for a living, it can sometimes take the fun out of it though I enjoyed it for the most part.
