Description
Continuing my occasional look into the seven deadly sins. This is my interpretation of the sin of Pride, also known as Vanity (I preferred Vanity over Pride, how very vain of me....
)This is dedicated to `dualdesigns as it is with a great picture of her in her wedding dress that inspired this picture. I was a little cautious at first because I knew what I wanted to do to the image and I didn't want to offend her, but she assured me that I was free to 'work my magic' with it. Can't say I didn't warn her tho
Apart from the picture from Amy, there are a couple of cobwebs in there from stock-xchang to fill it out a little. I did try my besterest to do my own, honest to god, but ffs HOW DIFFICULT, plus I wanted to finish this inside a year....

When you create something like this,do you use different techniques like photomanipulations, Painting and airbrushing?Forgive me if I'm wrong but I noticed that you use for some work real people faces and that is very powerful. I am trying to work on myself but when I saw your work I'm ashamed somehow.All in all you are one hellish artist.

I think this is a powerful representation of vanity. Unlike most recent art I've looked at I found this to be very symbolic and interpretable. I read it as vanity is a sin so strong that even in death where there's no longer beauty to cling to, it exists. And the webs seem to show how it traps you.
I think it's perfect and you showed it without a mirror. I love how you receded you the skin to the flesh. The defined webs on the left are beautiful, almost like jewels. If I was nitpicky I'd say the facial structure is too strong but that's it.

Excellent how darkly hollow the eyesockets are; no inner skeletal/muscular reflection, in fact very little light at all radiates from her save where she's bedecked in lace and pearl. Things of seemingly outdated artifice. For some reason, the most luminescent elements of this render seem the most naturally remnant: the cobwebs and what little remains of her original epidermis, itself rouged and powdered as of ruby and pearl.
Her surroundings remind me of one laying in a coffin or pit; yet from the accentuated tendons and positioning of neck and shoulders, 'oh so pretty' and willful even in death, she darn well seems to like it that way, perhaps even thinks herself too good for the company of others.
All this suggests Vanity's linear, meticulous self-obsession has brought complete physical and psychological disfigurement to what should be perfection. Her existence seems more a self-obsessed persistence in shadow and solitude - amazing how you rendered what was originally a wedding photo to something radiating complete and utter solitude.
This design is very reminds me of those Victorian-era portrait-cabochons, perfectly positioned, bound by purpose and will, in many cases only faintly smiling. The style and expression makes me think it's Vanity herself - or any other force - channeling its persona through your mouse, Wacom, whatever.

I thoroughly enjoy this piece. Good work. The only critique I can offer over a brief overview is that the top part seems to have a sharper resolution than the bottom. Maybe just a little more detail in the neck would be nice.

i love it, but i think i love it not as vanity, but it has more of a Sloth feel to it. But I like the symbolism, her eyes missing, she's too perfect that even her decay is something for her to behold-makes you think that maybe she removed her eyes to watch this carnal display.

Of the sins so far this has to be the best. I love it. It's scary stuff, certainly, but man. It rocks. It truely shows how looks wither away... how vanity vanishes

Fantastic work. The blending is wonderful and love the execution of the concept. The dark empty eyes really add the punch since the eyes are supposed to be mirrors of the soul, really adds emphasis and an originality!!!!
