I like slash but only if the character isn't straight (like Alistair and Morrigan). I know that it may be annoying... gdi, I would want
Morrigan to be bisexual but changing the characters sexuality only because you want to read slash? My golden rule: If you don't
like the characters sexuality... create your own god damn character instead of changing characters that doesn't belong to you
(because bisexual Alistair... isn't Alistair anymore *same goes for characters that are gay, let them stay that way*).

"create your own god damn character instead of changing characters that doesn't belong to you" -You
To be honest, I think that's a very silly thing to say. There's nothing wrong with people who want to create fanart of Alistair + whatever male character they may have. I mean, isn't that one of the points of fanfiction, fancomics, and fanart in general? To do something that you -can't- do in the game? It's completely harmless and they should -not- have to make their own characters, because they may really love a character from another universe.
But anyways, this is just my opinion on it! We're both entitled to have our own. c:

And yes, I know about Zevran and no, I'm tired of him being the only one 'allowed' to be slashed because some fangirl doesn't want to even picture Alistair doing someone other than their picture perfect female Cousland/Aeducan/Brosca/Amell/Surana/Tabris/Mahariel.
THIS.

I agree. While I have a F!Mahaariel who happens to be with Alistair, I want to see some slash with him and Leliana and Morrigan. I made my Warden female because I'm a girl, there's no other reason why my Mahariel is female.
We need more slash and femslash in this fandom. I'll do some DA slash right now.

I'm so agree, specially with the last sentece, I mena, if Zevran can be in slash pairings, why not Alistair?, the only slash pairing involving him is Alistair x Jowan, I think that almost!templar needs a break from being shipped with girls and start to being shipped with boys, at the least

So you think that it's better to change a characters sexual orientation (a character that doesn't even belong to you) is better? Come on... that sounds really silly. I could say the same about you; poow lil yaoi fangirl that can't accept friendship between men...
(You can onlt turn him gay if you install a mod but that's just... weird)

I couldn't make it though playing a F!Cousland. I just couldn't. It made me feel wrong in so many ways...
But I did download a mod so that my M!Tabris could marry Alistair XD Mwhaha~
I've found safe havens for lots of DA slash now. My favorite slash couple is M!Warrior!Hawke/Anders from DA2.
There isn't a more perfect couple for me ♥

I pair my male Brosca with Leske--one, because Leske reads as bi to me, and two, because I admit to writing in a slightly-alternate continuity in which Leske becomes a Grey Warden along with Brosca. Therefore, they'd have time to develop a relationship beyond "we're partners--let's go kill this thing, salroka." Not to mention that I hated the betrayal. It seemed blatantly OOC for Leske, yet Bioware had written it. Theory is that they forgot he existed.
I also get flak for pairing Alistair with my male Cousland (who breaks up with him at the Landsmeet, then goes off to be Warden-Commander. After Awakening, they're back together--of course, this is given a long period of them getting used to one another again). Somebody wanted me to pair my M!Cousland with their Gary Stu before I paired him with Alistair--they're a Loghain-and-anyone-who-brings-my-Gary-Stu-power obsessive, though.

I also thought the whole Leske betrayal bit was stupid.
I think the Bioware fandumb in general is afraid of pairing two dicks together, especially where their QWEEN UF FEWELDEN POWER MOON PWINCESS Elissa Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way Mary Sue WIFE UF ALISTAIR HEART HEART Cousland is concerned.
With my male Cousland, it was one-sided. He loved Alistair, but Alistair didn't seem to share that love until the very end when Alistair pretty much made that big sacrifice for him. (Archer ends up with Nathaniel Howe of all people) I hadn't gotten any grief for pairing a male with Nathaniel, but heaven forbid if I get a dick close to their pwecious Alistair.

Yeah. Way to go, Bioware. My favorites in the damn game were the Broscas, Leske, and Branka. Thanks for making Branka insane and Leske betray his best friend. I could rant for hours about Leske's betrayal, but it made me write AU fic. Yay.
Funny--I had a scene where Nathaniel Howe flirts with my male Cousland in story, but my male Cousland throws him out the door due to being committed to Delilah Howe (and, secretly, Alistair). I had my male Cousland marry her in story to cover up that he's gay. As for the grief, I hear ya. Got flamed a few times just for the pairing. Yet I still write it. I dunno if I'm writing what I love, or if I'm doing it to piss the fandumb off. Probably 75% former, 25% latter.

Another log to add to my bundle of misery when it comes to the Dragon Age fandumb is the treatment of Zevran. They don't like the idea that Zevran is bi and somehow their magical fairy princess Warden turns a whore into a happy homemaker.

thenutty1 In reply to ZhouTaisDayOff [2010-08-21 17:04:14 +0000 UTC]
Don't mention that. Homemaker!Zevran gives me nightmares. I mean, I get the feeling that he can and would cheat on the Warden if given the opportunity. Which is why I didn't have my Cousland and Brosca romance him in game. They both went for Leliana. Didn't want to be one of those people who wrote magical fairy prince Wardens turning whores into homemakers.
Oh--have a log concerning Loghain. The fandumb has a tendency to go "Loghain's SO much smarter than icky Alistair, and he looks like Snape, too! Eee! Let's pair our Mary Sue Wardens with him!" Not to mention Teagan...

Yeah. I mean, Teagan's okayish, but I don't love him. As for Loghain, he was a traitor, and I've never found those kinds of characters "sexy" or "awesome." I prefer the dwarves, and will not excuse them of any wrongdoing.
Some of the Loghain fans excuse everything he does and say that Arl Howe was behind it all. Riiiiiight. Like Arl Howe launched the Battle Plan That Killed The Wardens And King. That was all Loghain. It's creepy.
Anyway--is it particularly wrong to pair my M!Brosca with Leske?
On the subject of Nathaniel, people seem to like "Nanders." Don't know why.

ZhouTaisDayOff In reply to thenutty1 [2010-08-21 17:46:08 +0000 UTC]
Rendon Howe may have been a prick, but he's not too bright (just very greedy). The only way I can see Howe even doing something like that is if it benefited him greatly and immediately in some way. Loghain didn't believe in the Grey Wardens and thought Cailan was an idiot and thought that only he had what it took to stop the Blight. The man was a tactical genius, why the fans all thought it was Rendon's doing when he can't strategize his way out of a wet paper bag is beyond me.
"Nanders" is one I can and cannot see. The 'can' part is from all the bantering between the two, but the 'can't' part is because Nathaniel doesn't show that level of interest in Anders (or anyone) and Anders is such a skirt chaser.

'Can't' is my level on "Nanders." Nathaniel doesn't give a damn, and Anders chases skirts. Tried pairing M!Cousland with Nathaniel, but...my story has Bryce Cousland having had an affair with Arl Howe for years, and thus M!Cousland expects bloody betrayal in that relationship.
On Loghain: God. Just because the fans like him doesn't mean that he wasn't the one who inevitably caused Cailan's death, sold elves into slavery, and generally seemed to be making a coup for power.

Hah. I wish I'd found this back when I was writing DAO slash. I so want to put this on my profile.. but I've never dont that with a stamp though. >.< Must figure that out because this stamp is awesome.
I'm proud of my Aedan Cousland. He's my first character with Dragon Age who I slashed without a second thought. It was just exciting to me that a game allowed this kind of thing... which went along with my tastes very well. Now if only I could draw him... *sighs* oh well I'll stick to pictures taken from my TV for now.
But I also find the lack either slash disturbing. I mean I'm cool if someone wants a girl character because they think the common gender makes for a better relation when in the situations. But! I know not everyone would go that route. I'm a girl but I prefer playing men... No sure but I fall into the role easier. I've been told I play a guy better then some actual guys. Scary... but now I'm rambling.. sorry.

Not that I'm hating on anyone about thier choice in gender for the Warden or thier romance option, I'd just like to see more M!Warden/Alistair.
Becasue I think he'd be even more naive and adorabable if he were babbling over a male Warden.
I find this lack of slash in my fandom....disturbing...*shakes fist*

The women of Mass Effect could also use something to eat too. They look too damn skinny for my tastes. The only game I am almost exclusively female in is Jade Empire because the men are the ones that look horrible. Fable 2's a mixed bag. Depends on what I'm in the mood for.

Also, am I a bad person if my first Warden was a femBabylon? Is it still slash if he's male in my head?
Also, Dave started playing Origins. He made (or tried to make) Gordon Freeman (Cousland). He named his dog Barney.

[link] Dave specifically said he shouldn't be allowed to make characters. I think he did a pretty good job.
femBabylon has been the only character who romanced anyone. I make a lot of female characters (...usually city elves) probably because I rarely have a decent idea for a good male character. I'm sure it will come to me though, it always does.
but alas, Koei/Capcom stole my soul again. Bastards.

There's lack of slash in DA fandom because when girls play this game, they create female OCs that are later all over Alistair. My female OC was on the femslash side and it was funnier XD I'm not even big Alistai fan...
I agree, the lack of slash and femslash is sad.
I'd love to see some Alistair/Zevran. Or Sten/Zevran... Sten/Alistair? Sten doesn't get enough love...

I would have loved to have romanced Alistair as a male Grey Warden. And my female Dalish Elf romanced Leliana. The female characters I seen thus far from just being here are pretty much all the same. You seen one dainty "Pretty Pretty Little Princess Rogue Cousland", you seen them all. Not to mention that anywhere else, there's this big stigma around making male Wardens and prefering to play as male characters. I had friends chewed out of the Mass Effect livejournal community because they said they prefered the male Shephard over the female one.
