Description Merry Christmas, *painted-cowgirl ! I had SUCH a fun time drawing Ally and Holly, they're so adorable together. Not to mention Holly is just that gorgeous.

STORY TIME!

"Good job! Now give her a nice, big squeeze! Good girl!" Stacy cooed loudly to the little girl on the big mare in the middle of the indoor arena. She was a peanut; she couldn't be older than three or four years old. Aubrie smiled to herself, loving the fact that the champion Paint mare was taking such good care of such a little girl. It was adorable, quite frankly. As the tiny girl slowly guided the mare around the course of simple trail obstacles, she let loose tiny giggles and she grinned the whole time. Stacy was clearly enjoying teaching her, and as the girl led the mare over a pole on the ground, she glanced at Aubrie behind her back and mouthed, "She's SO cute!" Natalie Cameran, the girl's mother and the owner of Painted Desert Ranch, sat in the bleachers across the arena, proudly watching her daughter on her prize mare. Ally, the little girl, seemed quite content with just walking and jogging the mare over bridges and through dog-legs, so Stacy tried to help her with steering by making up intricate patterns through the large course she had built. Aubrie lover watching it, the girl was clearly in love with the mare and for her age, was quite the talented rider.

Soon enough, Ally and Holly were doing fancy patterns with trot poles, bridges, barrels, and whatever else Stacy came up with to keep the two from getting bored. Holly was an angel with the obstacles, seeming to know just who was on her back. She even seemed to be deliberately slowing and smoothing out her stride more so than it was already for the little girl. At the end of the lesson, Stacy had the girl stop in the middle, talking to her and smiling the whole time. The girl sat in the saddle, sitting up tall and proud and smiling her little face off. Stacy helped her down once she had finished. As soon as Ally hit the ground, she ran over to her mother, yelling, "Mommy, Mommy, I did it! Holly is a good girl today!" Her mother swung herself over the boards, picked the girl up, and talked to her quietly, smiling. Ally laughed. As Stacy led the mare over to the door, Aubrie jogged to talk to her.
"Stacy, she is such a cutie pie!" Aubrie gushed, once she had caught up. Stacy grinned, looking to see if they were out of earshot.
"I know, really! How adorable is she! And so good for just a baby, too," she marveled. Holly walked calmly beside them back to the barn, and eventually, Natalie caught up with them.
"Miss Stacy, Ally has something she would like to say to you. Don't you, sweetie?" she quipped. Ally nodded, taking her fingers out of her mouth.
"Thank you Miss Stacy!" she said very loudly, nearly catching the Paint mare by surprise. Stacy smiled back at her, reaching the stable door.
"You're very welcome, Ally," she replied, giggling to herself. Stacy led the group inside, haltering and cross-tying Holly and putting her bridle on a nearby hook on the wall. Natalie immediately started to untack her mare, kissing her on the forehead. Holly was very tired, it appeared; she held her head so low it strained the cross-ties, and her hind foot was cocked. Aubrie smiled, and squatted down to Ally.

"Ally, did you like your ride today?" she asked in a high, cheery voice. The little girl nodded, clumsily brushing her long blond hair back behind her helmet strap.
"Holly is my best friend!" she squealed, running over to the mare and hugging the very bottom of her nose, which was hanging down low to the ground. Holly awoke suddenly, surprised, but lowered her nose back down so Ally could pet her again. Aubrie stood back up, smiling to herself. The girl sure was a little firecracker. She'd make a wonderful rider when she was older. She still stood nose-to-nose with Holly, reaching up on her tippy-toes to kiss her sloppily on her little heart-shaped star. "Oh, to be young again," Aubrie though, grinning and watching girl and horse bond. It was definitely a match made in heaven.

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

I figured as the owner of Holly, I should be the one to critique e.deviantart.net/emoticons/g/gā€¦ " width="17" height="15" alt="" title="Giggle"/>

Well, lets start with vision: this is exactly what I asked for. You captured what goes on during a lesson perfectly.
Originaltity: How often do you see a lesson? Not often, much less for a little girl, the way you make this picture shows something I haven't seen anybody else capture.
Technique: I understand its a Lesson and isn't that big of deal, and I also know this isn't your best work(even though I luff it because its Holly). The ground could use work, mabye aim for more of a grainy look because right now it looks splotchy. Other than that your shading is spot on.
Impact: This just goes to prove there is a generation outside of the people you regularly see in competitions. What about the little ones who will be there in 15 years. I love that you took the time to really make it look like a child.

Overall, this turned out amazing. Thank you!

Thank you so much! Yeah, I HATE the ground too, but then I accidentally merged the layer so it couldn't be undone the way I normally do it. It means so much, though!
