Challenge for vectors? Black and white scan is one of my huge 'ambition'. A length of brainstorming section for color selection, shading, bonus, bonus, and bonus. Go figure it.

I've always wanted to be able to do complex vectors like this, but I love gaussian blur too much.

May depends though. For anime vectors best done with shapes/lines; with decent control of blur/glows may instead works amazingly on realistic/3D vectors, IMO

I don't do much anime, more surrealistic, but I've just never found an effective way to gaussian blur in a vector image

Yeah if you mean surrealistic digital art, I think It take times to get it right. Maybe more experiments? I think may easier to improve this way~
