I started drawing a sad clown because it’s always a fun theme to explore, but then remembered that he’s based on the tragic opera character Pagliacci. Then I remembered that my first encounter with Pagliacci was the episode of Seinfeld where Crazy Joe Davola dresses like him and stalks Elaine. Or it’s a self portrait. So whichever origin story reverberates most with you is definitely the one I intended.
