Description
An AU in which Gwen and Merlin are actually assassins hired by Uther to protect the Lady Morgana and Prince Arthur respectively, going from assigned kills to ongoing guardianship.

Aside from having clan markings (the circle and the dot on Gwen's stomach and Merlin's arm), Gwen and Merlin look no different: how they're dressed now is just a way of showing that they're assassins. Usually they dress in the servant gear from the show. Neither Arthur or Morgana know that their servants are actually deadly assassins, and in fact nor does Uther: he only requested them, he doesn't know who the clan sent.
Merlin and Gwen don't like what they do, but it's all they've ever known. (Raised since birth to kill). They pose as the servants of Uther's children, and the series runs the same until after series 4, in which things get very AU.

The bandits face was disgusting. Unwashed and sneering close to her's. Gwen wrinkled her nose and tried not to breath in his stench.
"My Queen, you are beautiful... I suspect a fine lady such as yourself does not want to see her beloved husband tortured. Why don't you answer a few of my questions?"
Behind him, Arthur let out a grunt as a hot poker was rolled over his stomach: his lip bled from holding in a cry of pain.
Something inside Gwen snapped. She dropped her mellow Queen/maid persona and felt the familiar shape of a knife in her hand, pushed up from inside her sleeve.
Before the bandit could say another word, or even express the shock he no doubt felt: she thrust the blade up and into his neck. She barely blinked as blood spurted out with each flex of the man's gurgled screams.
The Queen kicked him away as he scrambled for her and rolled away.
Lifting her eyes, she sought her partner and nodded to him. Merlin nodded back and leaned through the bars, the knights behind him immobile with shock. His long arms wrapped suddenly around the cell guard and twisted it: breaking the guard's neck between his elbows.

I'm not sure what the plot is right now, but I just had the image of Merlin and Gwen turning assassin to protect Arthur and the knights, and the others just being all 'WTF!?!!?!?'.
