Can I get some tips from you about doing backgrounds and coloring? Never been very good at mixing hints of colors together like you and some of my favorite artists do...

About BG, if it's an architecture, I'll search for reference (like picture from real place or concept art) and use contrast of color to make a distance (if the thing is far, It's no need to put a lot of detail)
Color, I like to choose Theme color at first (this pic is not obvious but I choose blue color) and then put other color that match with theme color. I don't know how to explain how I choose, I just feel that this color match with this color. But I rarely use color that too contrast, like opposite color. Because it hard to control. I'll use like red-orange-yellow, maybe add some purple to make it colorful. I think color template will help you in this case (please search on Google)
