Lighting is EVERYTHING! I've used film for a couple of decades now. Anything you can do with film, can be done with a digital.(No, I'm NOT a pro) It's been only this year that I've started digital. That little pop-up flash is fine as fill, in daylight situations. If you don't have one already, get a flash with a bounce head, and a tripod(A cheap one is better than none). Preview using the depth-of-field button(if your camera has one) and adjust your ISO & aperture as needed. Filter sets are fun too! Check out [link]

You're welcome! I've also used (with some assistance) a piece of white poster board to reflect natural light onto my subjects as fill light (softens some of the harsh shadows). Bright colored poster board "should" give some interesting photos too!

well i use a nikon D70. but a lot of my technique is in post production, using photoshop.

they are natural, but i darkened them in photoshop because my editing process usually makes them disappear. :3
