Wow, I love this so much! Awesome concept; the shading really brings it to life ;D heh It's also really cool how you mangaed to get the drawing hand to look like halfway still drawing on the page and then halfway kind of hugging the guy

Hi there! I'm here on behalf of #Traditional-Artists , giving to you all the feedback this piece gained at our last Critique Night!

I hope it is helpful and you can use it for your future work!

By *LeahJay :
β€œWell first thing I'd like to say is it's GREAT. I like drawings that are technically good and that tell a story. So already, a win. One suggestion is the color of the drape on the right. It's red, and since your eye goes naturally to red, it pulls me a little. Also, the details in the cityscape and on the dresser distract me a little.
A good rule of thumb is the greatest detail and the brightest color are like signs that tell you where to look. Of course I go right to the couple and I don't want to look away from that. Good modeling in space and nice colored pencil technique, with the hatching and careful shading. The lighting could be a little more dramatic IMHO, but I do see where it's coming from (the window) - a fine job!”

By ~chessgirl :
β€œI really like the concept of this picture. :3 Though I'm not sure if it makes me happy or lonely. XD It could have multiple meanings, really. But in all honesty I really like this. It's drawn and colored really well. You have quite the coloring skill, and your shading is fantastic. However, you seemed to really just put most of your effort to the two people, and not a lot else. :/ For example, the buildings out the window seem like they were lazily drawn, as well as the glass of water. Other than that, this is a job well done. ^^ Lots of emotion and color. I'd call this work a success.”

By *pafmaster :
β€œThough most of the time I don't like sketch lines still apparent in a piece, I think it fits exceptionally here, and ties the whole piece together. The line quality is actually very nice, and gives a strong sense of figure. You also have a pretty fair sense of your lightsource, but it could show a bit more more distinctly. Lighter lights, darker darks. Don't be afraid of more striking values. Good values though, just a bit more. Lastly I would advise smoothing the colors a bit so you don't show the grain of the paper as much, but overall a fairly well made piece.”

By *Feidhelm :
β€œDeviantArt is full of takes on the myth of Pygmalion, yet it's nice to see a girl as the creator for once. I really like the fact that it's a simple, unpretentious piece, where there are some similarities between the artist and the drawing (as in, you don't see one done in a realistic style and the other as a drawing) and, to me, that makes the work look more coherent and... honest. And I also like the way the edge of the canvas she's drawing on and the curtain seem to create a frame around the subject which, along with the warm colors, gives the scene an intimate feel. Nicely done!”

By ~Elveanna :
β€œOh, I definitely do like this one. The concept for once is so very sweet, pictures coming alive is always a cool thing, but it's beautifully executed here as well. I love the colours, the green of the top balanced with the red hair and curtain and the warm lighting. What you might have done is I think have more highlights, or rather, less shadows, and more backlight, as if the light was really coming from the window. The city backdrop is so pretty by the way, and I love how you rendered the clouds. To the characters: If I'm not mistaken you got proportions a wee bit wrong, your body from hips down is somewhat too small in comparison with the upper part. But apart from that I really like how you did the pose and especially the kiss, it looks so sweet! Overall: Some minor issues you could improve on, but on the whole great choice of subject, colour and excellent execution. I love it!”

By ~GokkiVanGogh :
β€œI really like this. I don’t know how often I’ve wished to just draw the perfect guy for me and make him alive. Ok, over to the feedback I like the colors, they give a harmonic impression, and the colors on the clouds gives it a little romantic touch. I think the composition here is also good. Her proportion is not too big or too small compared too the environments. But I think she is a little comprised from her waist and down. Her butt is a little small and her legs a bit short compared with her upper body and head. The head should go eight times in her body from the neck and down, here it only goes about 5 1/2 (if you don’t understand me, just ask ) I like your coloring technique, and I think you get the shades very well. Keep on the good work.”

By *davidofarbela :
β€œI love it. It is just a thoughtful, well-balanced piece. The only significant improvement I could suggest would be how the light hits the floor. The sun is on the horizon yet the light falls just short of the wall. From the angle of the sun in relation to the window’s edges, the light would probably bottom-out at her thighs or waist. Great piece!”
