Description
This odd temple seems to be some kind of worshipping hotspot. Though it does not seem to go to any of the three gods. Instead, it seems to go to the elements of fire and sees it as a divine entity in Chigon that must be honored. And… being fully honest is speculated to be one of the reasons why the gods abandoned the Bub-chi. No one really has visited the altar since it was abandoned sometime before the start of the Modern era… Save for Opal, who recently happened upon the temple after a daredevil moves on parkouring around the area, and happening upon it. But there is still a lot of interest to be found in the area. She has spent some time exploring it, however, somewhat thanks to curiosity, and somewhat due to being trapped inside for a few days due to an eruption.
One has to ask, however… what exactly destroyed it? Did someone in the Ancient times have other things to say about what they worshipped… did the volcanic eruptions do all activity in… or did the gods themselves express outrage and ransack it personally?
Construction and layout
In the past (Ancient times), a very small minority of Bub-chi, driven by an excessive fascination for fire and lava (Apparently sometime after the Bub-chi discovered fire), built a temple dedicated to the worship of fire. It is not exactly known how the chi survived here, or why they picked the location to be dead on the Zillius island. But the materials they created here are, staggeringly, immune to lava damage and cause it to slide right off, with the proxy buildings around the outdoor area providing shelter from the eruptions that rage from the volcano. They are still very well able to in the Modern times (And future times, assuming nothing happens to destroy them)
It is worth noting that the entire area, barring the entrance stairway is made out of Tungsten and oiled with some kind of material that slides the lava off quickly rather than allows it to settle down anywhere on the area the metal resides. This may go to explain the lava damage immunity, but not how it has managed to avoid any damage from the eruptions itself. Do take note however that while the areas made out of Tungsten are very durable and immune to melting and will effectively push away all lava that hits it, it does not mean you’re safe from it, should you be caught outdoors during an eruption and it splatters molten rock over the area.
There is an entrance that is, during the Ancient Era, available and consists of at least 1000 steps to climb them and reach the temple. The entire trip is riddled with various lit fire bowls on both sides of the stairs to both provide light and show the dedication of the worshipper’s faith toward the flames. There are not many things of interest save the potentially fatiguing trip up and down. However, from the Modern Era onward, for some reason, much of the stairs are blown away; there are no longer any stairs to transverse and in their place are a bunch of craters, melted away spots were rock used to be, pooled areas of lava at the bottom that will gladly cook an unlucky chi who goes for a molten bath, and some still standing pillars of stone that are surprisingly still stable but do not provide sufficient space for a typical chi to just walk upon. Due to this, any wish to visit here will require either an airborne means of transportation… or to either scale the cliffside with mountain climbing gear or… do what Opal did; use what remains of the stairway as an obstacle course and climb them to get to the top. There are enough in a good enough setup to allow one to climb up there if they are agile enough. Opal does have plans, however, to come back with a bunch of fireproofed rope that can withstand the rage of the volcano and build a zip line that could be used to at the very least get down from the temple easily, if not climb up quickly if one has the means to do so. In the Future Era, this zip line is present, but until noted, it is not present in the Modern Era, and never will be in the Ancient Era
In the center of the ground level, there is an altar dedicated to the unknown fire god the residents worshipped. There appear to be 2 fire bowls where items like incensed fuels were put into to honor the flames, and a stage right behind it where stunts and displays of pyrotechnics of various kinds were done to praise the flames. The area in front of the altar was enough to allow about 30-60 chi to comfortably stand about to praise and attend the ceremony of any meetings and rituals. It is not exactly known what else was done here.
There are also 6 additional buildings, all spanning at least 3 stories tall and 3 on each side around the altar, where during the ancient times, they seemed to be used mainly as safe houses against eruptions, housing for those who did live here, and storage of various items. Among the items appears to be still heavy amounts of oil, flint, sulfur stores, various metal artifacts, and worship attire, among other items of interest. The 2nd floors alone carry enough items that no chi could be able to carry all of it on their own, and it’s too tedious a road to bring any cargo holders. It is possible that explosives or explosive ingredients could also be found here as well… and in all but 1 of the buildings, a uniform for an ancient times fire worshipper could be found. In the 6th building, the center-left the building to be exact… there clearly used to be a uniform, but it’s missing. Reality is, Opal went tomb raider and found interest in the clothes, and took them for herself along with some other items around the area. The 3rd floors of all of these buildings are suspected to contain a lot of items themselves, but they are all behind locked doors that do have a presently found key and are too tough to break down with physical force… and the Traceur has no idea, as of yet, how to fashion the shaped explosive necessary to break them down. Still, one would be a fool to not think there are a bunch of goodies behind those locked doors.
Behind the altar’s stage is… interestingly, a large sealed door that looks as though it leads to some kind of internal dungeon inside the temple. Most chi is not allowed to even step foot or know what goes on in there, so there’s no chance of getting in during the Ancient Era. From the Modern Era onward, there is no one to stop you… but the door itself. The door appears to be locked by some sort of magical key, processes an anti-magic barrier to prevent magical means of forcing it open, and is too heavily fortified to blast or break into. To whoever does find the key (Which appears to be some type of specially made gem, according to the slot in the door), the doors should open up to permit entry to its secrets. For now, however… only the gods have any chance of knowing what is in there from the Modern Era onwards.
Recent activity (Modern times)
Some recent activity can be found in the modern era, in the form of one of the fire bowls that was knocked around before being pulled inside the middle-left building’s first floor and some bedding having been constructed out of damaged textiles on the ground near it. This is where Opal set up camp before when she first discovered it, and where she often rests when she decides to pay it a visit. She seems to be a frequent visitor, due to her (and by extension, some of the Z’anma Mining Colony’s) determination to uncover its secrets at some point. For now, she’s simply inspecting it and the surrounding area at times for any clues that she can use and whatever research is requested of her in the area to help with the colony’s expansive efforts, due to the fact that she’s the only one in the colony’s expedition efforts in the Modern Era to be able to reach up there.
**Meta : Until it is discussed with the staff and Yukimare (Or the others, if they wish to aid) is finished with the interior, the large doors are to remain permanently locked and/or the inside areas inaccessible. The gem key must be found to open it anyway, and the priests in the Ancient Era will stop all attempts to enter.**
