I was searchng through the internet one day to find native anicnet woodlands in Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland was 99% deforested by 1900. So understandably any remaing ancient woodlands are a rare and important thing.

I discovered that one of the most significat sites was less than 10 miles away at a palce called Drumlamph wood. It is a beautiful site, just off the main A29 raod from Maghera to Coleraine and lies in the shadow of Carntogher mountians in the Sperrins.

It is the core of an acnient woodland that once stretched from the river Bann to the slopes of the Sperrins.

I know this isn't a wonderful shot, I'm still struggling to get god exposures in forests. I wanted to show you waht a native woodland in Northern Ireland looks like. Some of the trees look as if they have been coppiced in the past.
