"Hey," Scourge called.

The small cat looked up from the bowl at Scourge. "Hi! Who are you? Do you live nearby?" He licked his lips.

"You could say that. Who are you?" Scourge sat down.

"I'm Cloudpaw. I'm a ThunderClan apprentice! Who are you?" Cloudpaw walked over to the fence.

"I'm Shade. I live in a house near here. What are you doing here if you're a forest cat?" Scourge said calmly and jumped to the ground beside Cloudpaw.

"Well, when you're in the forest you have to hunt to eat. Then you have to feed the elders. Then you have to feed the queens. Then we get to eat. It's a lot of work," Cloudpaw sighed. "But here this twoleg gives me all the food I can eat!"

"I see. You shouldn't stray away from your home though, it changes a cat. Here in twoleg place there are a lot of cats who don't take kindly to forest cats. You should be careful." Scourge flicked his tail.

"Thank you, Shade, but I think I can take care of myself," Cloudpaw puffed out his chest.

Scourge narrowed his eyes. "Okay, Don't say I didn't warn you," he leaped onto the fence.

"Wait! What kind of cats are you talking about; not that I'm scared! I just want to know what to look out for," Cloudpaw licked his chest with embarrassment.

"These cats have dark fur, collars with teeth in them, and they are always ready for a fight."

Cloudpaw's eyes grew wide as his eyes fell on the collar around Scourge's neck.

Scourge smirked, "Don't worry. I'm not one of them anymore." He reached the end of the fence and leaped down to Bone, Shadow, and Slash. "Let's go."

"But, Scourge, I thought we were gonna teach the runt a lesson," Slash clawed at the ground.

"He won't be a problem anymore. Let's go."

"Hey, Shade! Wait up!" Cloudpaw called from the top of the fence.

"Shade?" Shadow said quietly. "Who's Shade?"

"I used an alias so the runt couldn't tell his forest cats my real name and track me down," Scourge said back, equally quiet, and stepped away from the three cats towards Cloudpaw.

"What is it? I told you the dark-pelted cats are going to get you if you stay here!" Scourge growled, annoyed.

"I thought, if you lived here you must have encountered them before. Can you teach me how to fight them so I can continue eating here?" Cloudpaw's eyes shined.

"Listen, Cloudpaw, I-"

"Hey, who are they?!" Cloudpaw hissed.

"Who?" Scourge played dumb when he turned to look at Bone, Shadow, and Slash. "It's the dark-pelted cats!" Scourge hissed, the look it his eyes told the three to play along. "Get back Cloudpaw!"

Bone stepped forward unsheathing his claws. "You're on our territory, Shade. We had an agreement. This time you die!" He launched at Scourge.

They rolled around in the tall grass, hissing and growling. In the tussle Bone sheathed his claws so he wouldn't hurt the smaller cat. Cloudpaw watched in fear from beside the fence.

"Shade! I'll help you!" Cloudpaw ran toward the fight, but was stopped by Shadow and Slash.

"But who's gonna help you?" Slash laughed.

Shadow glared at Slash before turning back to Cloudpaw. "Leave now; forget this ever happened, and we might let you live," he hissed.

"But, Shade! I have to-"

"There's nothing you can do to help him. Leave now!" Shadow sprang at the small cat.

Cloudpaw batted and swatted at Shadow. Slash had moved in, ready to attack. Cloudpaw looked at Scourge, grief in his eyes, before he retreated into the forest.
