This was indeed an awesome idea, unfortunately I wouldn't be able to use it for educational purposes! In the Stallion Halter class, #1 and #4 (which were placed as 1st and 2nd) have some incredible conformational faults, such as being buck kneed and post legged. I've actually used #1 in some of my 4H demonstrations on how to not to be fooled by the pretty headed halter horse, and how to look out for conformational faults such as those. And when you put conformation lines on #1 you see how incredibly unbalanced he actually is, with angles that don't come close to matching up, a very short back, and he's actually ever so slightly rump high, and so on. #4 is rump high due to his bad back legs. #2 is a young horse and shouldn't have been included in this line up. Even though #3 isn't the best display either, he's probably best suited to working - which is what Halter is designed for; to look for the best conformation that would lend themselves to be worked easily without conformational flaws that would put stress on areas and create less working years. Qualities that we want to breed for. Buck knees are going to give out if that horse ever did any hard work, just like sickle hocks will, too. A moderate length of back, with a sloping shoulder and matching pastern angles will help create a smoother ride and less impact on the joints of a horse, and a horse who has an even or slightly higher shoulder than his hip, with a moderate length of back, will be able to round up and work off of his hind end more readily and easily than a horse who looks like he's downhill. A deep heart girth will make it easier for a horse to work for longer, and a compact barrel is more appreciated for various reasons that relate to working. All of this, of course, needs to be on solid legs and hooves to support the body.
After reviewing your Stallion placement, I took a peek at the Mare lineup and knew exactly how you'd place the class. And 1st place went to the downhill, nearly post legged mare.
Although they're the prettiest, we have to remember what we're really judging. Otherwise the working span of our horses is going to go downhill - people say that a 10 year old AQHA is just about done with his career, when if we just breed for the correct qualities that wont be the case. Ideally an AQHA Halter horse should be able to go work on a ranch well into his 20s without breaking down due to conformational flaws.
Thanks for all your work though, such a great idea!

How do you play? I mean I clicked start judging in the beginning and went to the stadium or whatever but nothing happens after that.

Click the "main menu" on the clipboard and click stallions, mares, or foals.

A ewe neck is when it is hollow on the topline and bulging on the underside.

"ewe" is a face. The E's are the eyes and W is the mouth.

Yup, halter horses are so ugly. They aren't that great for learning good conformation xD

I love this! I hope to get my judging licence some day (hopefully after college in a few years) and this has really helped!

Very nicely done. I'm not a fan of doing horse judging myself, but I do show horses and judging a couple classes is part of a 4-H competition I do, called Hippology. Maybe this'll help me out a bit

It's a very educational game! I learned more about anatomy by playing this once than in my five years of riding! As for glitches and stuff, there were none to be found! Just one thing though...isn't a gallop a four-beat gait, hand galloping aside?

The grey stallion was hard for me to see. I mean, I don't know if it's just my computer screen, but I couldn't really see the slope of his shoulder.

its probably your computer screen. The ones i use at work are color calibrated. If i look at it on my laptop, its allot darker. try adjusting the brightness on your monitor and see if that works.

Huh... When I click "start judging," it takes me down the hall, into the bleachers, and down to a chair... But then it simply stops with me staring at an empty arena... (Except for those two people in the stands opposite from me).
Seems like a pretty sweet game, I'll definitely have to see if it works using a different computer :]

I just wanted to say that this is the most impressive thing I have ever come across on the internet. I believe that you should really go after something like this, and try to make one more indepth, or ones for other types of divisions. I would even go as far as to contact breed and organizations about this, as i believe that you could get alot of recognition for it.
I know alot about halter, and other classes, if you ever need help please contact me, as I would love to make this a reality.

Cool, but I hated the first two stallions you rated as top two. Way too typy with tiny halter feet, over muscular, post legs, and diaper butts.
If I were the judge, I'd choose horse 3 over them all. He was the most balanced, correct horse in the game.

Wow!! It's ah-mazing!! I'm in a 4-H club for horses and you probably know, but there's a horse judging competition so this is great practice! I totally agree with the placings and reasoning and everything, you should seriously make more, maybe one on arabs? or an under saddle class... anyways, I think this is the greatest thing ever!! lol, keep up the great work!
