Description As the title says: my new set up with a separate larger monitor for the art stuff and my laptop for everything else basically. This is all still in its starting process, so I don't know as of yet how this'll work out, if it's going to be/feel any better or not. My old problem with the laptop was that the screen was ultimate too small for making art (I need to see a lot of small details and zooming in too much makes me lose perspective to everything else), so maybe this larger monitor will help. The lighting is also quite awful in this pic since I had to draw open the curtains and the light shines literally on everything...

Also, excuse the poor pic quality. I don't have my camera anymore and had to take a pic with my phone but since I can't transfer pics from my phone to my laptop via cord (because I don't have one) I had to post it first in a chat and from there save to my laptop... Complicated process.

Oh, and the water bottle is very important since it gets really hot here sometimes (as of yet I haven't spilled it on my keyboard > keep fingers crossed I never do), and that reddish little box is Finnish liquorish candy called Sisu (it tastes like cough medicine but I love it, maybe because it tastes like old cough medicine)...   In other words, Sisu is what keeps me going (google the word if you want to know what that truly means).

Man, I envy you for having a tablet. Drawing with a mouse can be such a hassle.

You draw with the mouse?!
I actually once tried that with my drawing program and there was no pressure sensitivity at all! All lines, on whatever pencil type, were exactly the same. Looked horrid.
Get a tablet. A small one, like mine, wasn't too expensive (plus it came with a few free drawing programs as well). It's worth the investment.

I'm a college student without a student loan in one of the most expencive countries in the world to live in, I can't afford it. =\ I had a tablet once, but it was a really crappy one that would only detect the pencil if you pressed it really hard down, it was impossible to draw with.

I've read that people can buy used small tablets for nearly half the price. Mine is about 3 years old now, and I've been told it could be replaced with a newer version but I'm not doing that until this one actually dies off. It's surface is already scratched (from drawing so much with it) but it still works just fine. I don't need a newer version simply because a newer version came out, but a lot of people change almost immediately a new one appears and sell off their older versions that still work perfectly fine.

Wow, that is nice! I could never get the hang of using a tablet like that. Having a larger screen is nice, One day I hope to get a large screen tablet to use.

I wonder how a Cintique would feel like? I can only dream of it as it's sooooo terribly expensive!
Anyway, it did take me about a year to get used to drawing with a tablet and not looking at it when I was drawing, instead looking at the screen and just allowing my hand to do the work. It may take me another year to fully get used to working like this...

Let me know if it works better this way. The size of the monitor is my problem as well. I always have too many tool windows open while drawing (colour circle, brush palette, layer organization etc.) that there is never enough space for the actual painting. And my eyesight is getting really bad.

Well, I've been making (read: "trying") some art almost all day and it still feels somewhat... wonky. I don't really know how to explain it. Maybe I have to do something with the drawing tablet touch sensitivity because my arrows seems to fly rapidly from one edge of the screen to the other, while before it felt as smooth as using the mouse on the desktop. Also, trying to find a good position where to put the chair is a complicated thing: I need to reach the keyboard anyway, so I can't really sit just in front of the larger screen, but sitting partly in-between feels (still) rather awkward...

Not sure about the larger screen giving more "space" for things, as my drawing program still takes all of the screen just like before. Everything is just... well, bigger.
Sure, that's a good thing at least for me because after my eye surgery I couldn't see near and had to wear reading glasses and even with those some things are just way too small to see without a magnifying glass. So the bigger screen is definitely an improvement. Mind you though, my laptop has already quite a large screen as it's supposedly a "gaming laptop", but it's still a bit too small for seeing properly when making art.
But, like I said before, it still feels a little awkward. Maybe it will take some time to get into a routine with it.

My son suggested I do my gaming with the larger screen but heck, that feels near impossible! Like, how do I use my keyboard to move around while having to look to the side??? That ain't happening! (Might need to get a separate keyboard, just for that. But I'm not too fussy when it comes to gaming, so that isn't on the top of my list.)

...I keep swinging my arrow from one screen to another... That is super annoying.
