I usually think that fisheye lenses make pictures of animals (horses especially) look really weird, but this is the first picture I've seen where the difference is so great because the horse is so close, that it looks really really cool. I love this.

I tend to agree with you that the super wide angle shots look really wierd on most animal and people shots. Thanks so much for looking at this one differently, I think this one works really well because of what you are saying.

in all seriousness, this one is breath-taking! the angle and pose of the horse are unique! may I ask which lens u used? a fisheye one?
of course!

y-me In reply to LightFromTheWest [2006-08-05 04:27:15 +0000 UTC]

Yup used a fisheye on it for sure! I thought it gave it an odd perspective that most people dont see with their horse photos.

Thanks again!

It really just is a great photo...sharp, fantastic color, lots of action... besides, I've seen more then my share of military photos. Something different is deffinitly much better.

her skin is beautiful.. i have not seen a lot of bay mares, oddly enough. ask your dad what he does for their skin, if anything at all. i think my boy has rain-rot. i'm incredibly upset with his coat this season... plus the fights he's been getting into...

I really dont think he does anything special for her, just hay and maybe some alfalfa. And of course fresh grass that she eats.

I think I like this one best.
Do you use the Unsharp mask at all? It could really bring out some of the detail in your shots.
My trick is to run unsharp on the full image with 150%, 0.3 radius and 0 threshold (assuming you use Photoshop). Then after I have sized it down to whatever resolution for posting, I run it again. Try it out - see if you like it. I have a Canon technical paper that talks about the EOD 1Ds and it actually suggests pumping it up to 300% for prints, but I find that overzealous for screen work.

y-me In reply to wastextc [2006-06-05 16:29:44 +0000 UTC]

I usually do use the unsharp mask filter, however my computer is set up for 2 monitors right now and is only running one. So my unsharp mask tool is on the nonexistent 2nd monitor... Photoshop wont move the tools to the primary monitor when the 2nd one is gone, so i cant retrieve it til' some later date when i can find another monitor to hook up to it.

wastextc In reply to y-me [2006-06-05 23:54:43 +0000 UTC]

Setting it back to single monitor mode won't move it back? There's got to be a way around that.
