Description Some Nights - Fun.
Finn got to his mom's room after he decided to pretend to be agent 007 and sneak through the hallways as if they were a warzone. He knocks on his mom's bedroom door, a quick rapping noise. Then, he turns to look down each end of the hallway, as if he thinks that he alerted someone from the noise. But, no one comes. He counts to twenty in his head before knocking on the door again. His skin is crawling as his anxiety increases, blood roaring in his ears as the tumbles click. He half expects to find some OT waiting on the other side for him. The door swings inward, and a surprisingly very alert Mrs. Whitman is there on the other side of the door; she usually could sleep through a nuclear explosion. She has dark shadows under her eyes, and the way she is setting her jaw shows that she already knows something is up. Finn can't help but feel guilty - ever since he told her everything that has been going on since he became a DHi, she has been in super mother mode to help anyway she can. Philby's mom is feirce, but she could never EVER get to the craziness point that Finn's mom is capable of. Philby's mom might know some form of karate, but Finn's knows all different types of crazy. He can definitely tell which is worse.
"What is it, Finn?" She doesn't ask in an anything else, not in any other tone besdies concerned. She's already ready to go and get her hands dirty, and Finn isn't sure whether he should be relieved, or concerned.
"Someone is keeping guard in front of Gale's room." Finn blurts out quickly. "They're walking around, they're looking for me too, mom. I need you to let me use your room phone to call up Philby to hack into the video survallience of the hotel, and maybe Maybeck and Jay."
Mrs. Whitman steps aside to let her son through. She pokes her head outside of the doorframe to check for any incomind danger, and then when she's satisfied, she closes the door again. She makes a big deal of locking it, and then turns to see her son already using the phone as she is about to speak, she then shuts her mouth and then goes into the bathroom. Finn tries Philby's room first, and he silently prays that he answers quickly. After the fourth ring, a groggy voice comes on the other end.
"Hello...?"
"Good, you're up." Finn sighs in relief.
"Finn-God, it's almost three in the morning." Philby's voice isn't as annoyed as it is anxious. "Damage?"
"Gale's being held hostage."
"Where?!"
"In his own room. We need eyes everywhere before we pull off this mission."
"I'm on it." Philby agrees, "I'll need some eyes and ears, and you'll need to rally up some of the others for a mission of your own. 2.0 wasn't made for one to use alone, you know."
"But you don't seem to have a problem with doing that." Finn mutters to himself, then focuses back on responding. "Yeah, who do you have in mind?"
"I could use some stealth." Philby responds, as if it were obvious.
"Uh, so then who, Philby."
Philby sighs, as if Finn isn't worth his precious time. Finn's ears burn with embarrassment. "I'll get in contact with Axelia, she doesn't have much of a temper compared to her significant other. You better choose your group, I'd go for our feline companion."
"If Jay heard you call him that, you might as well consider yourself a scratching post."
"Think of it this way, though, and hear me out. Jay looks like you, he really does, especially in the night. Axelia resembles Willa, and Gale resembles me. Before Penny duped all of us, she did have an uncanny resemblence to Charlie."
Finn pushes back the thought of this conversation wasting up the precious time Gale has, and then shakes his head, his brow furrowing. "Your point being...?"
"Think about it - do you think that maybe they weren't just made as decoys, but as stunt models for us?"
"Are you being serious, Philby?!" Finn snaps, unable to believe what he's hearing. Rage wells up within him at the mad scientist's words. "How can you think that way about the others?"
"But, think-"
"I'm done with thinking about it for now, just do your job. Watch what you say to Axelia, she's actually got a heart." Finn doesn't hold back, and then hangs up. He waits for his heart rate to go down, and then picks up the phone again, ignoring his mother's concerned gaze. He isn't in the mood for Philby's talk, especially about something so abstract, and rather gut-wrenching, to think about. Thinks about Jay's number, since he mentally took note of each of them, and then shoves the keys so hard they might just break.
---
Jay jumps out of bed at the sound of the phone ringing, actually falling off of the bed and onto the floor. He has always been a light sleeper, and his cell phone's ringtone being a rather bass-induced rock song doesn't help much. He shakes his head and stands up, scrambling for his phone before it's too late. He grabs hold of it, and then notices that the noise already woke up Axelia. She called him just before he got into bed, and that's how he ended up holding her through the night for yet another night. Though he definitely doesn't mind it at all, it's just that now he feels sort of bad that he woke her up after insisting he stayed in her room with her, since she just wanted to talk to him until she fell asleep. She doesn't like to be left alone, at all, anymore. Willa admitted that earlier that day she had to stand guard in front of the bathroom when Axelia wanted to take a shower.
The scary thing is, Jay thinks she's being completely rational.
She sits up and stares at him with half open eyes, hugging her knees to her chest as she watches him answer the phone. Jay doesn't know the number, but he isn't about to let the person on the other end get away for scaring him nearly out of his socks. He scowls as he speaks into the reciever, as if the other person can see it.
"Who the Hell are you, and why are you calling me this early-!"
"Jay, it's me." Finn's voice comes choppily over the reciever.
"Who is it, Jay?" Axelia yawns, stretching her entire body out with her arms over her head. She then turns on the light on the nightstand next to her. She's in black cloth shorts and a black teeshirt - all too used to going all ninja-colors for DHi missions as she would lay down for bed.
"It's Finn." Jay responds, then returns to the caller, and uses the code term to know what's up. "Damage?"
"Wait-is Axelia with you right now-"
Jerran growls and insists again, "Damage??"
"I need you to get ready for a mission."
Jay groans, "What now?"
"Gale's stuck in his room, there are OTs scouting the place."
Jerran hisses, and Axelia scooches towards him, "What is it? What's wrong?"
Jerran looks at her tired, and rather frightened, face, then holds up a finger to say 'one minute.' "Okay, Finn. Where do you want me to meet you. Unless you want me to tear these idiots to shreds myself."
"Who, Jay, who?!"
"Doesn't matter, you're not coming with me." Jerran doesn't want Axelia in any danger, especially as he gets the sickening feeling that those bruises are not just from her being a klutz. He wants to keep her out of the gaze of danger whenever he can, for how long he can.
"Jay-!"
"Where am I meeting you, Finn?"
"Ice room."
"Alright." Jerran nods, ignoring the big, puppy-dog eyes Axelia is giving him. "I'll meet you there in five."
He hangs up the phone, and looks at Axelia. She doesn't even hesitate and stands up, going over to put on her black sneakers. Jerran steps in her way, his face solemn, "Oh, no, you don't."
"Oh, yes, I am. I'm not letting you go by yourself." Axelia responds, trying to get around Jerran, but he keeps putting himself between her and the door. She stops trying to get around him, and looks up into his eyes again.
Jerran rolls his eyes and smirks, despite the severity this could turn into, he doesn't want to worry Axelia. "Don't think the Bambi-eyes are going to work on me."
"They've worked everytime I've done them before."
Jerran doesn't say a word, knowing she is right but definitely won't admit it. Instead, he does what he normally does, he scowls. "Oh, c'mon, you're not being fair!"
"If you tell me what you're going to be doing with Finn, then I'll let you go."
"How come I don't believe you."
"Because you know me too well."
"Well, that is true. And I can't keep this a secret from you."
"No matter how much you want to." Axelia nods, stepping closer, as if afraid he'll be gone from her side in an instant.
Jerran sighs and shakes his head, it really feeling lighter from the lack of hair. "Gale is surrounded by OTs as far as we can tell, I'm going with Finn, and maybe Maybeck, to go break him loose."
Axelia's face goes pale. She tries to get by Jerran again, huffing as she tries to get through. "Let me through. There is no way I'm letting you go without me."
"Axelia-"
"I am not being left alone-"
"You can't-"
"I can't stay here, with you out there with God knows what-"
"And I can't live with myself if something else happened to you!" Jerran snaps, and Axelia goes silent, staring at him with her raccooned eyes. He looks away, cheeks burning, a wall coming up between the outside world and his sensitivity. He tries to climb over it, slowly, to attempt to explain what he means. "You, you mean the world to me, you know that, right?"
Axelia doesn't say a word, but nods.
"Then, you know that I don't want you ending up in a hospital or in any ICU ever again, right?"
"I'm a DHi too, Jay." Axelia retaliates. "You can't me safe from what is my responsibility, too. Not to mention that if anything happened to you ever again, that'd be it for me, too..." Her voice sounds strained, it sounds hurt. "If you were to leave, I just..."
Jerran sighs and embraces her tightly to his chest, stroking her hair. "Sh, Ax, don't worry about it. I just want you to stay here, ok? I'll keep my phone on me, and if anything, and I mean anything, comes up, you call me, get out of here, and go to Willa's room." Willa is the closest one besides Jerran's. "Get her, and then get the others. Okay?"
Axelia, leaning her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat, nods slowly. She scrunches up her nose and looks up at him, "I love you, Jay."
Jay smiles softly, the wall shrinking again, for just a moment, "I love you, too, Axelia."
Axelia smiles back weakly, "Didn't Disney used to be about the power of dreams and love conquering all? When did it get this complicated?"
"When we decided to take the biggest step of all." Jerran replies.
"Being DHi2?"
"No, being Jellybean Buddies."
Axelia scoffs, but snickers slightly. "You did not just bring that up, Jay."
"Oh, yeah, I did." Jerran leans down and kisses her, and he smirks under the kiss as he feels her melt into his arms, all of her muscles relaxing at once. He's afraid she'll fall if he lets go. "Now, I'm gonna go, ok?"
Axelia opens her eyes slowly, her smile fading as she steps back, "Fine. I'll let you be the hero, for once."
Jerran rolls his eyes, "Oh, and all those times I saved your sorry butt don't count?"
Axelia's face goes cherry red, if anything bugs her more than OTs and Heartless, it's being a damsel in distress. That title could really get under someone's skin if they're subjected to it. "Don't even go there."
Jerran rolls his eyes and goes for the door, he stops, turning around to look at Axelia. She looks like she's trying her best not to cry. She forces a smirk and gives him a thumbs up, "Go save the world, in your jammies." She means his brown tee shirt and navy flannel pants, which look as much as the clothes kids usually wear out and about, bumming it is basically the newest style out there. She then she clasps her hands behind her back. "Please, come back to me."
"Where else is there for me to go?" Jerran responds as if it is the most obvious answer in the world. He grabs the door, not bothering with his shoes, and keeps his gaze with her until the door shuts behind him, and he hurries sliently through the dark, his night vision making the shadows his advantage.
---
Axelia, alone and afraid, sits down on the edge of the bed, her face in her hands as she draws in a shakey breath. She looks up at the cieling, then down at her hands, easily spotting the little pinpricks of red on the inner of her wrists. She rubs at her left one as she stares at the door, already anxiously waiting for Jerran to come back, and say that Gale is fine and they can go back to bed. She has never felt safer in her life than she does when she is cuddled into Jerran's side as they lay in the dark, listening to his even breathing, able to finally sleep herself. If there is one thing Disney was right about, it was how powerful love is.
Although, love hasn't stopped any morphing, evil fairlies, giant dragons, or any OTs out there. If Walt knew anything about the OTs, doesn't he have anything else besides that pen and journal to help them - is there any bigger picture out there for them. Axelia rubs her temples and looks at her phone, as if willing it to ring. Willing it to be Jerran calling, for him to want her to come. She'd face anything to be with him, anything.
As if she has some sort of magical powers of her own, her phone starts belting out techno beats. She snatches it up, answering it immediately. "Jay?!"
"Uh, no." Philby's voice comes over the line. "Sorry, but I'm not your boyfriend."
Axelia huffs loudly, "Sorry, Philby."
"It's alright, I'd be rather fidgety if I were you. I am anyway, to be correct-"
"Philby." Axelia runs her tongue over her teeth, not in the mood for Philby's tech talk - she's not only grumpy about Jerran leaving her alone, but she's also running on no sleep at the moment. "Please, cut to the chase."
"We are going on a mission to the security room." Philby replies, "We need to get into this grid."
"Did you turn on the Grid?" To the kids, there is a difference between each grid, THE Grid is their DHi server.
"No. It's staying off for tonight. I don't think we're ready for DisneyLand yet."
"...Shouldn't Finn and Gale have a say in that?" Axelia replies.
"Besides the point, we'll rendevous in the main stairwell on the second floor."
"Uh, ok. Wait-"
"5 minutes, Olympia."
Before Axelia can respond, Philby has hung up, and Axelia puffs out her cheeks in aggravation. Then, she realizes that this is the first duo mission she has ever even had with the brainiac. She's been with Willa a bunch of times, but never with just Philby. That bothers her slightly, his presence is always so overwhelming. She doesn't ever feel like she could stand a chance with him mentally, he makes her feel so stupid, but she won't admitt it. She remembers when he was in charge of keeping her out of the water at Typhoon Lagoon, and how that turned out was in her favor. She wonders if she still has that advantage over him, just in case he does get put under Malificent's OTK spell. Axelia shudders at the thought of it. She slips on her black converse, and slowly creeps out into the hallway as she stuffs her phone into her pocket. She notices a sillouette that is all too familiar to her, but the evil fairlie has her back turned to her. She creeps slowly down the stairs.
---
Amber turns around and smirks, "Well, here stars my game of cat and mouse.
