Description
I wanted to take off my skin
& shed bones like clothes,
secrets like jewelry that can't get wet
& I'll dive into the darkness.

I made friends with serpents, with sharks
while whales spoke my language,
telling stories of when the earth
was almost still.

There's shades of scenes I've been snatching,
fragments from when nothing was the same
so I can't help but wonder
what ever happened to all the things we've lost-
the memories eaten by the tides & trees
leaving skeletons that would make introspection impossible,
so painful I had shattered on the concrete floor
& left more than my own blood behind me.

The voices now escape me when my mind drifts.
I've been loosening my grip, but my heartbeat keeps tripping
me up, dodging underfoot, playing hopscotch
as I fall asleep. My mind is digging
into every corner & sometimes I can't tell
if I'm seeking to learn or find a way out.
